Since 2019, we have been working alongside chancellors and campus leadership in reimagining what the future of our Student Information Systems (SIS) should look like across the UT System. Selecting one, unified system for our campuses will be critical in ensuring faculty and students have seamless access to information with as little friction as possible. Ultimately, a unified SIS will also provide a more consistent and intuitive student experience focused on service excellence, increased engagement and enhanced student success outcomes.
To keep our faculty and staff up to date on our progress, we wanted to inform you that we are working alongside campus chancellors to begin the process by issuing an RFP (Request for Proposals) to begin planning and preparing for this critically important, unified SIS solution. This shift will unite five unique systems across the university into one integrated platform.
The key objectives for this project include:
- Capture the current processes, data and solutions that support student processes at each campus.
- Identify a set of common requirements for the new SIS solution.
-
Create common data definitions for the conversion that will need to be completed during implementation. For example, what is the definition of a student? This answer may appear simple on its surface but can be layered with complexity depending on the campus.
- Understand the state of modern-era SIS solutions. What is available now? What is the roadmap for the future?
-
Provide a future-state view of SIS, the staffing plan needed and recommended timeline for implementation.
The goal is to select a vendor in June 2023 and begin the planning and preparation process in earnest beginning in mid- to late-summer. The project is estimated to take up to 18 months to complete.
Our commitment to you is to keep you informed as we continue along this path in establishing more efficient and effective systems. To learn more about the guiding principles of this process, please click here. Should you have questions regarding this process, please contact dash@tennessee.edu.
