Welcome back, Michelle!

Michelle Hart ’04 is the new clinical psychologist and substance abuse coordinator for Counseling, Health, and Wellness Services. A psychology major, she went on to earn an M.A. and Psy.D. in clinical forensic psychology and to work with youth in group homes and detention centers. Most recently, she was staff psychologist at the Washington State Deptartment of Corrections. We’re happy she’s calling Puget Sound home again!

DID YOU KNOW? KUPS has an alligator mascot because Doug Herstad ’03 created a “director of alligators” title for a student when no staff positions were open. The job was to prevent alligators from entering the station, and it endured. In 2013, then-Director of Alligators Louise Blake ’13 created the famous alligator logo—and named him Doug.

Cities around the world are utilizing new forensic evidence for tracking opioid use: sewage. By analyzing wastewater for traces of drugs, scientists gain critical information about the opioid epidemic. The emerging field is chemistry prof. Daniel Burgard’s specialty.
