Dear Colleagues:
During Ball State University’s Fall Convocation on August 16, I told my colleagues that, because of their dedication and hard work, our University remains strong—as reflected by our stable student enrollment and retention.
I shared several statistics to demonstrate this point.
This Fall, we enrolled more than 3,700 new freshmen. That number is comparable to our pre-pandemic, 10-year average. And it’s 400 more new freshmen compared to Fall 2021.
Approximately 78 percent of the students who enrolled as freshmen last Fall are registered for classes this Fall. That retention rate is comparable to our pre-pandemic average—and is nearly six percentage points higher than the Fall 2020 freshman cohort.
This year's total Fall enrollment will have approximately 1,000 more students than Fall 2022.
In short, our University’s enrollment across all dimensions—undergraduate, graduate, international, and online—has fully recovered from the significant adverse impact of the pandemic. That’s due, in large part, to the collective effort of our faculty and staff in every college and every division.
During my convocation speech, I shared other indicators that Ball State remains on a positive trajectory. You can listen to highlights of my Fall Convocation remarks online.
