School Photos Retake/Make-Up Day: Thursday, October 21
Retake or make-up pictures with Dorian take place Thursday, October 21 during both lunches in the Theatre/Gym Foyer. Additionally, if a student has yet to be photographed, they must stop by for their FREE ID card.
For retakes, students must bring back the original picture package previously distributed. For students yet to be photographed, picture packages may be ordered online at dorianstudio.com and searching for Woodinville High School. All students must have a WHS ID card picture taken. The WHS photo ID card is free of charge. Students must carry photo ID at school and at extra-curricular activities at all times.
Lost Cards
If a student loses an ID/ASB card, check at the Main Office as often they are turned in. If the card cannot be found, lost ID/ASB cards can be replaced for $5.00 at the Cashier's Office. ASB membership can be purchased for $60.
Misprinted Cards
If for some reason a student's ID card is missing the Woodinville logo, has a wrong student number, name or wrong image, please stop by the Cashier's Office, as well, for a reprint free of charge.

Feel free to either work on your applications or come at us with any questions you have about the college application process. We consider it a privilege to help you with this!
Seniors, please come by the Counseling Office to pick up the form that must be signed by your teachers and parents/guardians to attend "Apps & Snacks".

If you are currently earning lower grades than you would like, we are here to help you with the support of your teachers. Please feel free to contact your school counselor or teachers whenever you are having a difficult time in a class, we are here to help you through tough times. Don't forget, before/after school, during Options and Talon Time are all great times to connect with teachers if you need help.

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) opened on October 1st, so mark your calendars, as this is a task you will want to complete sooner than later. When Are PSAT Scores Released?
In general, PSAT scores are released online about eight weeks after taking the PSAT test. The 2021 PSAT scores will be released over the course of two days, December 6th and 7th. Which day your results will become available will depend on which state you live in.

Students who took the PSAT in October 2021 should expect their scores to be released on December 6th or 7th, 2021.
How To Access Your PSAT Scores
The College Board will send you an email when your test scores are ready. The email will contain all the instructions you will need to create an account on the College Board website, accessing your score report online, as well as viewing your scores with your access code: https://account.collegeboard.org/login/login?destinationpage=https://cbaccount.collegeboard.org/iamweb/secure/verifyTST?type=update.
The process is simple and quick. Once you have accessed your College Board account, you will have the option to download and print out the report if desired.

College Visits for Woodinville High School Students
WHS students can now sign up for college visits! This year we will offer some visits in-person and some visits virtually. If the visit you are interested in attending is a virtual visit, it will still take place in the College & Career Center. Please follow the directions at the link above to sign up. Students in grades 9-12 are welcome to attend college visits.

FRESHMAN: It is not typical for students in 9th grade to attend college visits unless there is a college they are exceptionally interested in.

Permission to Withhold Student Directory Information: Due Date Oct. 15.
This is the final eminder that the deadline to submit the Permission to Withhold Student Directory Information form is Friday Oct. 15, 2021. If you wish to submit this form at this point, do so on our website. On the form, you will find choices to determine how your student’s information is shared. Again, if you wish to complete this form you must do so no later than Oct. 15.
Forms will be accepted after the deadline, but the District cannot be responsible for the release of Directory Information if the Permission to Withhold Student Directory Information form is received after the October 15 deadline of the current school year.
Federal law prohibits school districts from releasing information found in student files without parent/guardian permission, except for what is termed Directory Information. You can learn more about what our district releases by visiting our webpage. The District does not release Directory Information for commercial or fundraising purposes but does release this information when there is a legitimate educational purpose for doing so.
If you completed this form this school year on ParentVUE and submitted it to your school already, no additional action is required. Your form will remain on file for this school year.

NSD REQUIRED FORMS: Due October 29
As indicated in the September 16 Northshore Connections communication to families, annually the District provides parents/guardians with notification of forms that must be acknowledged, including:
- WA State Attendance Letter
- Rights and Responsibilities Handbook
- Weapons Letter
- Student Hosuing Questionnaire
Thank you to those who have acknowledged the required forms. For those who haven’t yet completed the forms, the district extended the deadline to Friday, October 29. We have heard from some families that there was a challenge for middle and high school students to access the Rights & Responsibilities form. The district has resolved this issue and all secondary students should be able to view and acknowledge this form in their StudentVUE account. It is recommended that families use a laptop or desktop computer to complete the forms, when possible.
Parents and students who have not yet acknowledged the form(s) are asked to login to ParentVUE or StudentVUE, as applicable, today to view them.

Fall Play! Clue: On Stage

The award-winning Woodinville High School Theatre Company is bringing mystery and murder back to the WHS Theater with Clue: On Stage. This madcap who-dun-it brings the classic board game and motion picture to the stage. The show runs October 29 and 30, and November 3-6 at 7:00 pm, in the Woodinville High School Theater – delivering murderous mayhem right around Halloween!
As you can see from the posters below, the WHS Theatre Company has double-cast the play in some parts to allow more of our talented actors to make a wicked return to the WHS Theatre stage. The cast is comprised of 21 of Woodinville High School Theatre Company’s students, including seniors Aidan Robb, Allison Calhoon, Carolyn Dunbar, Charlie Nunes, David Fountain, Kasey Christie, Maggie Mus, Jacob Price, Georgia Willis, and Pedro Cunha.

Clue is a hilarious farce-meets-murder mystery, based on the screenplay by Jonathan Lynn and written by Sandy Rustin with inspiration from the classic Hasbro board game. The tale begins at a remote mansion where six mysterious guests assemble for an unusual dinner party where murder and blackmail are on the menu. When their host, Ms. Boddy, turns up dead, they all become suspects. Led by Wadsworth - the butler - Miss Scarlett, Professor Plum, Mrs. White, Mr. Green, Mrs. Peacock, and Colonel Mustard race to find the killer as the body count stacks up. Clue is the comedy whodunit that will leave both cult fans and newcomers in stitches as they try to figure out… WHO did it WHERE and with WHAT!
Many of the technical aspects of the show, everything from set building and sound to publicity, are handled by crews of students from the WHS Technical Theatre program. Technical theatre students include Joey Roberts (Stage Manager), Sarah Mellor (Technical Director), Marisa Leinenwever and Max Vandall (Sound Directors), Simon Smith (Lighting Director), Phoenix Carver (Costumer), McEwen Guitierrez (Master Carpenter), Isabelle Cobbley (Props Head), Kasey Christie and Saydia Phillips (Hair and Makeup), Anya Egts (House Manager), and Maggie Mus (Publicity). Come out and see this triumphant return of the Woodinville High School Theatre Company post-pandemic!

Men's Swim & Dive needs DIVERS!
Season begins Monday, November 15th.
No experience needed but these sports offer a great head start to:

Washington State Healthy Youth Survey: Grades 10 & 12, Wed., October 20 during AdvisoryOur school is participating in the Washington State Healthy Youth Survey (HYS) on October 20, 2021.
The survey will be given to students in Grades 10 and 12. The Healthy Youth Survey includes questions related to physical activity and diet, unintentional and intentional injury, substance use, sexual behaviors, abuse, risk and protective factors, and access to school-based services. Survey results are used by schools, communities and state agencies to plan programs to support our youth and reduce their risks. Participation in the survey is voluntary and the students’ answers are anonymous.
The HYS will be administered online this year. No privacy issues were identified in the E-survey pilot conducted in 2019. This year, schools and districts are being instructed to disable any recording, keystroke tracking, and video capture software on school-issued devices used to take the survey. Students will also be instructed to do the same on personal devices used to take the survey before they begin. The sponsors* of the survey ask if you use any software to monitor the device your student will use to take the survey, please turn it off before they begin to ensure their honest participation.
*The Healthy Youth Survey is sponsored by the following state agencies: Health Care Authority - Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery, Department of Health, Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction, and Liquor and Cannabis Board.

Washington State ELA and Math SBAC Testing 2021-22
Due to the pandemic, OSPI announced the spring 2020-21 Smarter Balanced state testing in ELA and math was postponed to the fall of 2021-22 for current 8th-grade and 10th-grade students.
This means our current 9th-grade students will test on ELA and math and our current 11th-grade students will test on ELA and math in October/November of 2021. Additionally, our current 12th-grade students who did not test in the spring of their sophomore year will also test on ELA and math in October/November of 2021.
The ELA and math Smarter Balanced tests are an avenue for students to fulfill the ELA and math state graduation pathway requirement.
- The fall administration of the Math Smarter Balanced test will take place on October 27 & 28 in 9th-grade & 11th-grade Block math class periods and includes an opportunity for 12-grade students who haven't met the pathway requirement.
- The fall administration of the ELA Smarter Balanced test will take place on November 3 & 4 n 9th-grade & 11th-grade Block math class periods and includes an opportunity for 12-grade students who haven't met the pathway requirement.
- Students must bring their fully-charged district-device.
The fall administration of the Smarter Balanced exams have reduced testing time and will only include the CAT portion of the exams. Juniors and seniors who meet standard on the fall administration will fulfill the ELA and/or math graduation pathway requirement.
In the spring of the 2021-22 school year, current 10th-grade students will participate in Smarter Balanced ELA and math state testing, as has been the standard practice. Additionally, any 11th-grade or 12th-grade students who have not yet fulfilled the ELA and/or math graduation pathway requirement will have the opportunity to re-take the ELA and/or math Smarter Balanced test.
- Spring testing dates will be announced
- Students must bring their fully-charged district-device.

Ready to support a great cause? Pink Out! Pink T-Shirt Sales! Commons, Both Lunches
One day only! The WHS Cheer Booster parents will be selling pink t-shirts for only $5 during both lunches in the Commons on Friday, October 22.
All proceeds will be donated to the UW Wendy Feuer Fund to help support breast and ovarian cancer research.
The traditional Pink Out football game versus Inglemoor High School takes place Friday, October 22 at Pop Keeney, 7 p.m., as well!

Halloween Costume Guidelines!
Halloween is approaching on Sunday, October 31. On Friday, October 29, costumes are allowed for the school day and at extra-curricular activities within common sense guidelines. We need to continue to be mindful that costumes should also be sensitive to our many diverse groups and be culturally appropriate. We want to have fun, but also to not have fun at anyone else's expense. We want to nurture creativity, inclusivity, and respect.
With that in mind, here are some friendly reminders and guidelines for our students about acceptable clothing that day and, really, any day:
- Cultures are not costumes.
- Halloween costumes are only fun or funny when they don’t hurt or make fun of other people (in any way).
- Student costumes must be appropriate for the school workplace as outlined in the dress code in the Student Handbook.
- Students must be totally identifiable at all times (this includes face paint)
- Appropriate COVID masks are require.
- Halloween costume masks or other face coverings not allowed.
- Costumes and/or accessories are great so long as they: a) don’t portray or perpetuate stereotypes or denigrate cultures or genders, b) are not distracting to self or others, and c) do not include any weapons (or items that appear to be weapons).
We hope everyone enjoys a fun and safe Halloween!

The September back to school craziness has passed and we’re excited for October because October is Pass-the-Hat month. Our once-a-year fundraiser to support teachers and students starts now! The WHS parent community has been so generous in the past, and although we did not get to put our silly hats on and talk to you ‘in-person’ at Curriculum Night this year, we hope you will continue to support this very important fundraiser. All your tax- deductible donations will be used to support and enrich our school community and classrooms this year. We also will be using some of funds to replenish and restock the supplies that have expired in our emergency storage containers. In just the first month of school, PTSA has already received staff grant requests from almost every department at WHS totaling more than $13,000. Winter Sports
Athletics Registration!
Athletics registration is OPEN for 2021-22 winter and spring sports. Winter sports include men's and women's basketball, gymnastics, men's swim/dive, and coed wrestling. Tryouts/practice begin on Monday, November 15. Registration will close on November 14 for basketball and gymnastics which are tryout sports. Registration will remain open for men's swim/dive and coed wrestling until November 28.
Final Forms is an online registration platform for Athletics registration. You must be registered to receive information and updates from coaches. Visit our Teams website to learn more about our winter and spring sports.
Required Prior to Participation in Athletics
To be cleared to participate in the first day of tryouts or practice, a Final Forms registration must be completed by both parent and student and a current sports physical must be on file with the WHS Athletic Office. Sports physicals are good for two years from the exam date.

Academic Eligibility Requirements
Student athletes in high school are expected to meet or exceed a 2.0 GPA to be eligible to participate in school-sponsored activities. There are regular grade checks for each sports season.
- NSD Standard: Minimum 2.0 GPA each semester
- WIAA Standard: Passing 6 classes

| Attendance Absences & PCR Covid-19 Result Requirement
Due to high email and call volumes: if you are reporting your child absent from school due to any of the symptoms listed below for any period of time, they are required to get a PCR Covid-19 result (rapid antigen results are no longer accepted per Department of Health) prior to return to school. Reference the King County Return to School Flow Chart NSD follows below.
- Fever of 100.4°F or 38°C or higher
- Cough
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- Chills
- Fatigue
- Muscle pain or body aches
- Headache
- New loss of taste or smell
- Sore throat
- Congestion or runny nose
- Nausea or vomiting
- Diarrhea

| Attendance & Early Dismissals
Our student day is from 8:20 a.m. to 3:20 p.m. and WHS expects all students to attend school every day. Below are a few highlights of our attendance policy and procedures:
- Absences must be excused within two (2) school days of the absence or students will be assigned progressive discipline.
- Ten hours of excused and/or unexcused absences in a semester in a given class may result in going through the Attendance Validation process.
- When a student accumulates three (3) or more days of unexcused absences it will result in a conference with administration.
- If a student misses more than 15 minutes of class, it is considered an absence
- If a student requires an early dismissal, the student needs to come to the Attendance Office before school or during Options with a parent/guardian signed request. We are no longer accepting phone calls or emails for early dismissal to limit classroom interuptions.
- Students who arrive late to school (both excused and unexcused) must check in at the Attendance Office for a pass before proceeding to class.

Northshore Schools Foundation: Request for Removing Barriers Support
Basic Needs Aid
When a family is in crisis and normal household activities are disrupted, students experience distress that affects their attendance, coursework and classroom behavior. NSF's Basic Needs Aid Fund allows families to stock up on groceries or fill the car with fuel so that they can direct their energy where it is most needed: finding a permanent solution to the situation at hand (https://www.northshoreschoolsfoundation.org/request-support/#basicneedsaid).
Apply for Funds
For WHS students, contact Counselor and CARE Team member Sarah Brenner at sbrenner@nsd.org and/or your student’s school counselor or grade-level administrator to describe the temporary challenge or circumstance and request support. All NSF funding requests must come from an approved school staff member.
The NSD staff member will then submit your request.
Foundation leadership will review the request within 5 days and contact the NSD staff that submitted the request with details.

Yearbook Information
Senior Portraits: Due October 28 at Midnight!
Here at Woodinville the senior class has the opportunity to submit a “nice” photo. These photos do not have to be done by professional photographers, while many students choose to use them it is not required. You can turn in a nice photo that you took on your phone. The only musts are that it needs to be a single portrait, head and shoulders only, no props, no pets, no hats and clothing free from messages. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to email me. If you are satisfied with your Dorian ASB picture, that is the photo we will use. Once October 28th passes we will collate who turned in a new portrait, who has their Dorian picture selected and who we may be missing. We strive for 100% Senior Portrait section completion, please remember accidents do happen but if we are careful and you follow the deadlines we should all be happy.
Grad Ads: Due December 17th at Midnight!
More detailed information will be coming soon about them. The basic information about them is that parents can opt to purchase anywhere from a ¼ of a page to a whole page to give your senior a shout out of congratulations. These will be purchased directly from the Balfour site and you will be able to upload pictures and words to your Graduate if you so choose. In case you were curious; they have to be purchased this early due to printing constraints, these ads need to be factored into our book and they guide the size of it as well, because they are extra pages beyond the content we plan for. More information about this to come Nov. 1, this information will have pricing and examples.
Next Selling period will be December 1-17th.
