Dow Bay Area Family YMCA Facility Closure Announcement

As stated in yesterday’s communication, the Dow Bay Area Family YMCA is committed to our mission and the safety and well-being of our members, staff, volunteers and the broader Bay County community.

We have been diligently monitoring all national and local updates surrounding the COVID-19 (coronavirus) situation. In order to best ensure the health of our entire Y community, we have decided to close our facility, including the 24/7 Fitness Area, to the public effective March 16th through at least March 29th. At this time, our Childcare facility will remain open tomorrow as we continue to receive and review directives from the local, state, and federal government.

Our free youth food program will continue at our YMCA for any Bay County resident who is 18 years of age or younger. The food will be distributed in the North Parking Lot at the specific times designated on our website. We have reached out and are working with other local agencies to be a distribution site for additional food programs.

We understand that closing our facility will affect many of our dedicated members. We will have a follow up email to you tomorrow detailing options for your membership.
We understand this is a very concerning situation. The Dow Bay Area Family YMCA has been a pillar of the Bay community for more than 135 years, throughout both good and challenging times. The decision to close our Y was made to best ensure the safety of everyone in our community. This decision also came as a recommendation from the Bay County Health Department and our national organization, YMCA of the USA.

During this closure, you can expect regular updates from us via email, our website, and our Facebook page.

We are asking everyone to follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines and take their own measures to protect themselves. These measures include not putting themselves in situations with large crowds or where they come in close contact with others, staying home if they do not feel well, frequently washing their hands with soap and water and covering their coughs and sneezes.

We will continue to work with the health department and local physicians to determine what other actions, if any, would be prudent on our part and when it will be safe to reopen our Y.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate this evolving and challenging situation. We look forward to returning to business as usual as soon as possible.

With gratitude,

 Jim Vietti
