Big Crowd at D3 Town Hall
Extra chairs were brought in to accommodate the large crowd at the District 3 town hall on Aug. 11. Huntsville City Schools Superintendent Clarence Sutton joined Council Member Jennie Robinson at the event, sharing about the start of the school year and the system’s plans. Representatives from the Huntsville Police Department also attended and discussed efforts to keep District 3 roads safe while answering questions from the audience.

Site Purchase for Future HPD South Precinct
The Huntsville Police Department’s South Precinct is not leaving its home at 7900 Bailey Cove Rd. any time soon. But the City Council approved the purchase of land for a new South Precinct at its Aug. 14 meeting. While the new precinct is still in the early planning stages, the selected property is strategically located south of the Logan Drive and Commerce Parkway intersection, behind the Kroger shopping center and just south of Community Fellowship Baptist Church.

Honoring a Public Servant
Council Member Robinson presented a Council resolution honoring Vicki Guerrieri for her work on the Huntsville Police Citizens Advisory Council as well as several other civic roles. “She has devoted her life to strengthening neighborhoods, promoting public safety, building police-community partnerships and mentoring future leaders, leaving an indelible mark on Huntsville’s civic fabric,” the resolution said in part.

Visiting SMD Symposium
Council Member Robinson visited the Space & Missile Defense Symposium at the Von Braun Center. SMD brought more than 6,000 visitors to Huntsville for the conference. During her visit, she got an inside look at the latest advancements in space and missile defense technology and interacted with leaders of Huntsville defense-related companies.

Grooving Through Music Month in September
If it’s September, it’s Music Month in Huntsville. And there will be no shortage of opportunities to enjoy live music at free events throughout the month. Hosted by the Huntsville Music Office, Music Month boosts Huntsville’s creative economy, enhances the City’s reputation as a music-friendly hub, and provides valuable resources for musicians.

Behind the Scenes: Huntsville Firefighter
For a firefighter at Huntsville Fire & Rescue, the job is a lot more than riding on the flashy red trucks while responding to emergency calls. Firefighter Matthew Gonzalez, who works at Station 16 on Jeff Road, shares what it’s really like being a firefighter. “I look forward to actually coming into work each day,” he said.

Major Street Plan Updated
Keeping traffic flowing smoothly throughout Huntsville is a big job for the City. The Planning Department recently presented an updated Major Street Plan that received unanimous approval. The plan highlighted recent road improvements and high-traffic corridors while also providing an outline of planned roads, such as the continuation of the Northern Bypass east of Memorial Parkway.
