It provides information about water-related conferences, collaborative courses and field experiences, undergraduate research positions and internships, and other opportunities for students, faculty, and staff at the Universities of Wisconsin.

Feb 7: Info Session About Summer Internship and Laborer Opportunities with Veolia Milwaukee |
Join us for an info session with Veolia Milwaukee on Feb. 7 from noon to 1 p.m. Veolia Milwaukee is hiring six summer interns to work in the areas of wastewater plant operations, asset management, capital projects, wastewater collection/conveyance, or procurement. The company is also hiring summer laborers to help maintain facilities. Interviews will take place early February.

Summer Internships with Red Cedar Basin Monitoring Group |
The Red Cedar Basin Monitoring Group at UW-Stout is hiring two interns for the summer 2025 field season. Students should be pursuing a bachelor’s degree in a life or physical science at UW-Stout, UW Oshkosh, UW-River Falls, or UW-Eau Claire. Interns receive a salary of $5,200 plus scholarship funding to enroll in the Freshwater Science Field Studies in Western Wisconsin summer course, which is taught by UW-Eau Claire, UW-Stout, UW-River Falls, and UW Oshkosh. You may also potentially earn internship credits for your experience.

The Freshwater@UW Summer Research Opportunities Program offers hands-on mentored research experiences at UW-Madison, UW-Milwaukee, UW-La Crosse, UW-Green Bay, UW-Oshkosh, UW-Parkside, UW-Stevens Point or in Manitowoc, WI. These are paid, on-site research opportunities for undergraduates interested in water research. Feb. 15 deadline.

The UW Oshkosh ERIC lab is hiring students from any UW school for the Clean Boats Clean Waters Program in Vilas County. Interns inspect watercraft for aquatic invasive species and provide information to boaters about prevention. Positions include salary, travel reimbursement and housing. Positions will be filled ASAP. Center for Water Policy Openings |
Undergraduate Communications Intern: This is a paid internship for spring semester 2025, with the possibility of extension. This position offers the chance for an undergraduate student any of the Universities of Wisconsin to gain hands-on experience in water policy communications. The position is remote and pays $16/hour. Water Policy and Science Communications Grad Fellow: This is a fully funded position that runs fall 2025 through spring 2027. Candidates should be interested in conducting graduate research toward a thesis focused on water policy and science communications. Freshwater Science Field Studies in Western Wisconsin |
May 19-June 6
Taught by UW-Eau Claire, UW-Stout, UW-River Falls, and UW-Oshkosh. 3 credits.
Study hydrologic science in western Wisconsin, such as groundwater and aquifer characterization, wetland delineation, evaluation of aquatic ecosystems, and water quality assessment. Food, parking, housing, and transportation to field sites are covered by the Freshwater Collaborative. Financial assistance for tuition may be available. Open to students from ANY university. Expedition to Great Lake Michigan Summer Course |
June 9-June 20
UW-Milwaukee/UW-River Falls. 3 credits.
Dive into a hands-on learning adventure focused on the limnology, Web-based climate and weather models, and biogeochemistry of Lake Michigan! This unique course uses a problem-solving approach to tackle real-world environmental challenges affecting Lake Michigan.
Open to 10 students from ANY university on a first-come, first-served basis. Preregistration is required to reserve a spot. Students who preregister by February 1, 2025, are eligible for double-occupancy dorm rooms. Meals during class time and lodging are covered by the Freshwater Collaborative. Water Pollution Field Lab and Methods |
June 16-July 3
UW-Milwaukee/UW-Whitewater. 3 credits.
Learn about laboratory and field methods used to assess the environmental and health effects of water pollution. Experiences will include field sample collection, water quality and chemical analyses, acute and chronic toxicity testing, introduction to pollutant-induced gene expression, and time on UW-Milwaukee’s research vessel.

Elements of Water, FRSHWTR 101 |
July 7-Aug. 16
UW-Milwaukee. 3 credits.
This course addresses the importance of water in biological, ecological, physical, climate and economic systems, and the consequences of distributing the natural water cycle. Meets the Natural Science General Education Requirement. Open to high school students enrolled in the Early College Credit Program. Registration is now open for the Freshwater Science Summer Field Experience, June 22-25, 2025. This hands-on experience is open to students who will enter their senior year of high school in fall 2025. Students participate in a range of field experiences with faculty from UW-Eau Claire, UW-River Falls and UW-Stout.
All in-program transportation, chaperoned lodging in UW-Eau Claire residence halls, and meals are paid for by the Freshwater Collaborative. The application deadline is March 1.
