Bristol Regional Hospital Spotlight
Over the last 3 years, we have participated in TIPQC projects:
Optimal Cord Clamping (OCC): Exceeded the goal of >90% for the past 12 months; OB and Pediatrician participation and staff support; standard practice for all deliveries.
Promotion of Vaginal Delivery (PVD): We worked as a system to implement order sets and practices that would help us meet the goal of <23.6% including Bishop score, standard orders for cervical ripening, Pitocin order changes, sending staff to spinning babies classes, implementing birthing balls and peanut balls for positioning, a standard cesarean worksheet that is used on all nulliparous patients. Monthly review of all primary c/s in nulliparous patients, looking for areas of improvement, missed opportunities or need for education or coaching, with numbers posted in the unit and are sent to administration monthly. We were able to bring the PC-02 rate from 25.32% in FY23 down to 22.77% in FY24 after joining this project. We continue to look at every case – with safe vaginal deliveries being the goal.
Ballad Health has a special Excellence Awards for the whole system to highlight Quality Improvement projects for the past year. BRMC submitted their PVD project for the area of Quality and Sustainability and was awarded a Level 2 Implementation Award.
