COACH NEWSLETTER
October 31, 2016  |  A weekly publication of the National Speech & Debate Association
Dear Coach,
Happy Halloween! Don't be afraid, we've collected everything you need to know. Keep reading for important deadlines within the next two days and an event format update!
WHAT'S HAPPENING
Going, Going, Gone » It’s your last chance to access #Nats16 pictures! The photo site closes today, October 31. Relive the fun and get them here before they’re gone for good!
Program Spotlight » Members of the Carlsbad High School Speech & Debate Team organized a public forum for City Council candidates last week. The team worked together to develop questions and design the format, and two senior debaters moderated the forum. We love to see coaches bringing the power of their speech and debate teams to their communities. Do you have a story like this to share? Let us know!
Big Questions Format Update » Thanks to your feedback, we’ve made some changes to the Big Questions format! We’ve shortened the rounds to 45 minutes plus debates can now be one-on-one, two-on-two, or pairs can compete against individuals. Students who are competing in pairs will alternate speeches and share their prep time, much like Public Forum or Policy. As tournament hosts, you can choose to limit your event to one entry type if you wish. To learn more about the new format or to explore how your team can fundraise with Big Questions, visit our page. Questions? Email lauren.burdt@speechanddebate.org

NEW COACH CORNER
Active Coach Status » An Active Coach has earned at least 10 coaching points over the past year. If you have coaches who are listed as Inactive, they may still be assigned points and access resources with their own coach accounts. Once they earn 10 points, they will automatically be moved to Active status. We encourage schools to add points to all coaches as appropriate to recognize their hard work and dedication!
