The Lucy Family Institute for Data & Society has announced its 2024 research theme: “Data Stories of Translational Research for Society (STARS).”
The Data STARS theme will highlight translational work by amplifying research that addresses complex social problems through co-design and co-creation with industry, community organizations, and other multi-sector partnerships.

| Lucy Training Workshop: Introduction to Web Scraping with Python

Web scraping enables you to efficiently fetch and extract data from web pages, opening doors to information that might otherwise remain hidden or difficult to collect.
This workshop provides an introduction to web scraping using Python. Through a hands-on project, participants will learn how to use the Beautiful Soup Python package to scrape, parse and extract specific data from a webpage.

The introduction to machine learning workshop gives a general understanding of what machine learning is and what it can do for your research. Starting with the importance of preprocessing your data, we will then move on to the difference between supervised and unsupervised learning and how important the training set is for your model creation. We will explore various machine learning methods and applications in R.

The Department of Political Science at Case Western Reserve University is participating in fast-tracked, targeted university searches for two AI/machine learning and politics positions.

Hires will be tenure-track assistant professors and/or tenured associate professors. A Ph.D. or ABD in political science is required. Applicants can participate in one or both searches using a single application.
Candidates should email applications to Ms. Scout Weber, Political Science Department Assistant, at scout.weber@case.edu. Consideration of applicants will begin on February 9, 2024. Following an initial department review, some applicants will be asked for additional materials. The position is expected to commence July 1, 2024.
