Today, Indigenous Peoples Day | Who are the Indigenous Native Americans to Los Angeles?

As part of LMU's recognition of our history, location, and relationship to the indigenous communities in Los Angeles, we acknowledge the Tongva peoples as the traditional land caretakers of Tovaangar. The Tongva Peoples are the Indigenous people of California from the Los Angeles Basin and the Southern Channel Islands. Many of us drive through the Cahuenga Pass where there were a substantial settlement of peoples. This area covers about 4,000 square miles and LMU Loyola Law School and Loyola Marymount University sit on these lands today. Please see LMU's resources here.

Thursday, October 19 | Wear Purple for Spirit Day

Stop by the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion table on the Esplanade for a purple baggie with goodies. Show support for the LGBT youth by wearing purple on Oct. 19.

Spirit Day started in 2010 and the color purple symbolizes spirit on the rainbow flag. As many as 9 out of 10 lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender students have been bullied, according to the National School Climate Survey.
