Student Spotlight
Rae Kovnick
Meet Rae Kovnick, psychology major and Solutions Scholar! “Both my parents have jobs in the field of psychology and it has always been an interest of mine as well. My ambitions are fairly simple. I want to help others, even if it is just working on bettering the life of a single person, whether through research or direct contact. At the same time I have a continuous desire to learn and I constantly wish that there was more time in my life than to just pick one or two majors.
I was first drawn to Solutions Scholars through a few different reasons. I am concerned over our environment and what we can do to better take care of the planet. Every year it grows more concerning to see how much we are polluting our own lives and destroying other natural ecosystems. I want to be able to do something to change that. Additionally, in a school setting the idea of working closely together with a small cohort throughout the school year is immensely appealing. Especially getting to know other like-minded individuals and have hands on experience helping out in our own city.”
Paid study participants needed
Behavioral researchers from NEXUS are inviting students to participate in PAID studies on market trading, game theory and individual choices.

Each task is compensated at $15 an hour on average (some engagements are about 2-3 hours each, some are only an hour) plus $5 show up reward for the longer ones.

Meet Your Online Instructor: Dr. David P. Carter
Dr. David P. Carter, assistant professor in the Public Affairs Program of the Department of Political Science, may be one of the newer faculty in CSBS, but don’t let that trick you into assuming he hasn’t already made an impact. Prof. Carter researches organic food regulation in the United States and advocacy among rock climbers, among other topics, and has a book coming out soon, Regulation by Proxy. He also teaches a variety of online courses, including PADMN 6335 Governance and the Economy and PADMN 6323 Public Policy Analysis, and likes to rock climb, ice climb, and backcountry ski.
Prof. Carter recently finished an outstanding redesign of the online course section for the Public Policy Analysis course, which will be offered Spring 2020. For more information about Prof. Carter, as well as his current courses, visit his University of Utah Faculty Information page or his personal site, www.policyandadmin.org.
