Celebrate 4th of July Weekend at Cal Expo With Expanded State Fair Food Festival To-Go
(SACRAMENTO, CA) - Today, Cal Expo announced the cancellation of this year’s 4th of July fireworks celebration due to risks associated with the COVID-19 pandemic and to save valuable budgetary resources in these financially uncertain times. In a normal year, the 4th of July fireworks show attracts around 30,000 people looking to catch a glimpse of the spectacle of lights. However, this year the health and safety of the community is Cal Expo’s number one priority as we continue to do our part to help the State combat the virus.
In order to preserve and celebrate the essence of the 4th of July, Cal Expo is expanding our Food Festival To-Go program to include more offerings and fairgoer favorites on Friday, July 3. Additionally, Cal Expo will have a pickup area at the California Letters for pre-ordered Independence Day light-up toys for individuals and families to celebrate the 4th of July at home.
Since the kickoff event on May 22, the CA State Fair Food Festival To-Go has been immensely popular among those who wish to indulge in their favorite fair foods despite not being able to attend the Fair itself. On Friday, July 3, fairgoers will be able to drive through and receive an expanded menu of turkey legs, corn dogs, bacon-wrapped hot dogs, and kettle corn just in time for the holiday celebration.
“It saddens us to have to cancel a decades-old tradition enjoyed annually by tens of thousands of Californians,” said Margaret Mohr, “but we hope that by offering this alternative we can provide residents an opportunity to celebrate Independence Day while ensuring the safety of our community."
Cal Expo continues to provide support on the State fairgrounds for COVID-19 related services and most recently hosted a canned food drive for SMUD Giving Monday, which collected over one ton of canned food items for the Elk Grove Food Bank.
