VISIONS

VISIONS will feature works by composers whose compositional voices or inspiration was of particular significance either musically or historically. The program will include music by Ulysses Kay, Nancy Galbraith, Vincent Persichetti, Roger Zare, and much more. Performances will be from James Reese Europe, Gustav Holst, Patrick J. Burns, Yukiko Nishimura, and Yasuhide Ito. Our special guest will be Heather Hanzlik, granddaughter of the great Clifton Williams, whose trilogy will be performed that night.
The world premiere performance of Joshua A. Idio's new work, "Dreams of an Architect" will also be presented.
No tickets will be available at the door; tickets must be reserved in advance.

NJCU’s Department of Public Safety encourages you to download the Rave Guardian free mobile app that turns your smartphone into a personal safety device.
By downloading the app on your mobile phone, you can invite friends and family to join your network as your “Guardians.” You can then request one or more of your Guardians to virtually walk with you on or off-campus. It’s like having an emergency blue light system and a trusted friend with you at all times.
The app also has a safety feature that directly connects you to campus security and the Jersey City Police Department in an emergency situation, as well as the abilit to submit an anonymous tip to campus security should you see something suspicious.
On behalf of the NJCU Department of Public Safety, I encourage all students, faculty and staff to enhance their personal safety and the safety of their friends by downloadin the free app. Simply search “Rave Guardian” in the app store on your mobile device. At NJCU, Commencement provides our students an opportunity to celebrate their academic achievements with family, friends, faculty, alumni, and the entire University community. NJCU’s 2022 Commencement will be held at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., on Thursday, June 2, 2022.
Specific information regarding submission of a picture, quote, and/or thank you message, and the ability to submit your name for professional recording during the diploma process will be sent to eligible candidates via University email during the Spring 2022 semester. Additionally, Commencement regalia information will be announced in the coming months.
Similar to our 2021 Commencement exercises, we will have two ceremonies:

Multi-Style String Educators Symposium 2022
August 1-3, 2022
On the heels of last year’s success, the Division of Professional Education and Lifelong Learning (PELL) in partnership with the Music, Dance and Theatre (MDT) Department and its acclaimed faculty, hosts the Multi-Style String Educators Symposium 2022.
Under the direction of electro-acoustic violist Martha Mooke, Director of NJCU Multi-Style Strings, with Special Guest Artists Sweet Plantain String Quartet, participants will learn to play and learn to teach a wide variety of styles, including jazz, Latin, R&B, blues, African, Celtic, bluegrass, folk, and rock. The event will also feature repertoire of varying grade levels and styles, different approaches to improvisation and ways of incorporating electronics with special feature on Latin American music and styles.
The three-day event will be held Monday, August 1 through Wednesday, August 3, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily and on August 3, 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. for the dress rehearsal and collaborative concert with Sweet Plantain.
