PSU: Donate Blood with Bloodworks NW for American Heart Month
What: Make a lifesaving impact in your community by donating blood at the PSU Blood Drive! February is Heart Health Month—a perfect time to care for others and yourself through blood donation. Not only will you help local patients in need, but each blood donation also includes a quick health check, where you can monitor your blood pressure and pulse over time.
When: Wednesday, Febuary 18th, 10 AM- 4 PM
Donors at this drive will receive a pass to the Columbia Sportswear Portland Employee Store valid Feb. 1 – Mar. 8, 2026!

Prep Books for Kids with the Children's Book Bank
What: During this opportunity, you will help to clean and spruce-up gently-used community donated children's books, which will later be distributed to low-income preschool children in the Portland area! Specific tasks include wiping covers, taping torn pages, erasing scribbles, covering inscriptions, and reinforcing worn spines. A typical volunteer session includes a welcome, introductions, an overview of the Book Bank and book-cleaning instructions, the book-cleaning itself, and a reflection.
When: Tuesday, Feb 17, 2:20 pm - 5:30 pm
Where: Children's Book Bank, 480 NE 9th Ave, Portland, OR 97232, USA, Portland, OR
Volunteers will have the option to meet at PSU to travel together on the #19 Bus, then walk to the Children's Book Bank. The actual project is from 2:20pm - 5:30 pm. Please indicate in your registration whether you'd like to meet us there directly or on campus around ~1:50pm to take the bus over with the group.

Thank you, Books Through Bars!By: Sadie McCarthy
Thank you to everyone who volunteered with Portland Books Through Bars, a nonprofit established in the 1990s that distributes books and educational materials to incarcerated people across the United States.
Led by Kaitlyn, SCEC’s Service and Immersion Program Coordinator, PSU students and community members met at Taborspace in SE Portland to package reading materials. The team read letters written by people in custody, selected books from the organization’s donated book bank that fit the requests, and packaged them for distribution.
One volunteer, Quinn, said, “I enjoy volunteering with PDX Books Through Bars and would do so again at the drop of a hat.” Get involved with Books Through Bars by donating books, volunteering, or checking GivePulse to join SCEC for future opportunities!
