CREEED announces major gift in support of STEAM education and digital literacy
Education nonprofit commits $100,000 to STTE Foundation over next two years
(El Paso, TX) – Today, CREEED announced its continued support for the Success Through Technology Education (STTE) Foundation, pledging $100,000 to the nonprofit over the next two years. The donation is part of CREEED’s ongoing efforts to improve the quality of education and raise levels of educational attainment for all El Paso students.
STTE develops and deploys educational initiatives around technology and entrepreneurship for middle school, high school, and college students in the Borderplex region. It offers several interactive programs and events designed to encourage young people to explore the fields of science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (“STEAM”).
“STTE aims to increase the number of students pursuing careers in STEAM, and it is also working towards 100 percent digital literacy among young people in the region by 2030,” said CREEED Executive Director Eddie Rodriguez. “This dovetails perfectly with CREEED’s goals of improving the classroom-to-career pipeline and dramatically increasing the number of students with a college degree or credential by 2030.”
The funds will be used to support STTE’s work to expand entrepreneurship and technology comprehension and address technology gaps in the region. This includes STTE’s efforts to close the digital divide by getting devices into the hands of students who need them, hosting an annual science fair that challenges youth to use technology to solve real-world problems, and hosting an annual ceremony recognizing educators that are at the forefront of helping students harness the power of technology and entrepreneurship in their academic journey. All of these efforts align with CREEED’s goal of preparing students for college and 21st century careers.
“STTE is all about helping students explore the creative side of technology and learning to innovate,” said STTE Executive Director Joseph Sapien. “The pandemic has amplified the importance of tech and digital skills, as students and workers had to navigate a new virtual world. CREEED’s support allows us to double down on our goal of getting all young people in the Borderplex region to possess digital skills so they can be prepared for our COVID and post-COVID economy.”
CREEED’s gift to STTE is part of a multi-year capital campaign by the STTE Foundation to make the Borderplex region a competitive tech hub and to grow STTE into a national leader in youth innovation and entrepreneurship.
