2021 Downtown Parade of Lights
The Leisure Services Department announces the 2021 Athens-Clarke County Downtown Parade of Lights. This year’s parade is scheduled for Thursday, December 2 at 7:00 p.m.
Annually, more than 60 entries will compete for such prizes as “Most Original Float,” “Best Use of Theme," and “Best Use of Lights,” with the best overall float receiving the “Mayor’s Award.” This year’s theme is “A Super Hero Holiday.”
The parade begins on the corner of Hancock Avenue and Pulaski Street, and ends in front of City Hall for the traditional Community Christmas Tree lighting ceremony.
The Athens-Clarke County Downtown Parade of Lights is sponsored by the Leisure Services Department and the Athens Downtown Development Authority.

Deck the Hollow
The community is invited to celebrate the holidays in lights. Due to COVID, each ticket will have an assigned entry time. Entry will be limited to 50 participants per each half hour time slot. Masks are required for entry.
Families and individuals are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance. The admission fee is $5 per person, and children under 2 years old are admitted free of charge. This activity will be open for registration two weeks prior to start date.

Movies by Moonlight
Patrons are invited to socially distance on picnic blankets and chairs to enjoy the films outside. Gates open at 5:15 p.m. “The Year without a Santa Claus” will start at 6:00 p.m. The second movie “The Muppet Christmas Carol” will begin after intermission.
Bring blankets and chairs to enjoy classic films on the lawn. Warm up with s'mores, hot chocolate, and apple cider around the fire, sing holiday songs, and bring your letters to drop in Santa's mailbox.

Winter Registration Continues
The Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services Department continues registration for winter program opportunities for 2021.
A diverse selection of activities highlighting the arts, environmental science, recreation, sports, and holiday events are planned for adults and children.
Online registration takes place at www.accgov.com/myrec .
Before registering, individuals who have not already done so must establish a free online account at www.accgov.com/myrec . Payment may be rendered using a debit card, American Express, Discover Card, MasterCard, Visa, or a MasterCard or Visa gift card.
Registration will continue until programs are at full enrollment or they begin.
On November 1, 2020, the Leisure Services Department updated its online registration software program. Individuals who have not established a new online account since November 2020, must establish a new account at www.accgov.com/myrec.
Individuals who already have an online account and received or renewed a Leisure Services Department scholarship since January 1, 2021, may use the scholarship when registering online.
Individuals with expired scholarships and new scholarship applicants must visit a Leisure Services Department facility office at least five business days prior to registering for a program. Scholarships must be applied for in person. Information regarding the scholarship program, including required documentation, is available at www.accgov.com/scholarship.
Individuals who do not have access to a computer or smart phone may register online using the computer labs at East Athens Community Center at 400 McKinley Dr., Lay Park at 297 Hoyt St., or Rocksprings Park at 291 Henderson Ext. during regular hours of operation.

ACCGov Leisure Services ScholarshipsThe Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services Department offers scholarship to qualifying Athens-Clarke County children. Scholarships allow participants to pay less than the program fee.
