OutLaw Celebrated Coming Out Day, Anti-LGBT Youth Bullying & Spirit Day  On October 10, OutLaw teamed up with the LLS DEI office to honor National Coming Out Day and combat anti-LGBT bullying. They distributed lavender bandanas and pins symbolizing solidarity and allyship with the LGBT community. Check out Rains Library's LGBT reading collection here. Landmark LGBT Cases by Dima Bazzi Obergefell v. Hodges, 576 U.S. 644 (2015) Obergefell v. Hodges is a landmark Supreme Court case decided in June 2015. The Supreme Court held that the Due Process and Equal Protection Clauses of the Fourteenth Amendment protect the fundamental right and liberty of same-sex couples to marry. This decision affirmed marriage equality across the United States by requiring states to recognize lawful same-sex marriages performed in other states. Bostock v. Clayton County, Georgia, 590 U.S. 644 (2020)  Bostock v. Clayton County is a landmark Supreme Court case that was decided in June 2020. The Supreme Court held that Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits employment discrimination on the basis of sex, also covers discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. The Supreme Court extended protections to LGBTQ+ employees in the workplace in holding that an employer violates Title VII by firing someone because they are gay or transgender. Thus, this decision marked a significant advancement in civil rights for the LGBTQ+ community. William M.
