Annual Session Spotlight:
Plenary Sessions with Vanessa Julye & Lamar Matthew
|
Annual Session registration is now open! Our opening plenary at Annual Session, the evening of Tue, July 29, will be given by Lamar Matthew (York Meeting). Lamar holds a love for local and Quaker history and has been a longtime advocate for LGBTQ+ rights. The 2025 Carey Lecture will be given by Vanessa Julye, FGC's Associate Secretary for Organizational Cultural Transformation. At FGC, Vanessa works to increase awareness of White Supremacy and its impact in the Quaker and sectarian communities. Vanessa is a co-author of the book, Fit for Freedom, Not for Friendship: Quakers, African Americans and the Myth of Racial Justice and several pamphlets.

Women's Retreat 2026: Back at Pearlstone!

The full, weekend-long BYM Women’s Retreat at Pearlstone Conference Center is coming back in January 2026! And the women of Herndon Friends Meeting need your help! Take the quick interest survey below to help us gauge interest. It's Not Just Pride. It's WORLD Pride!

This June, DC is hosting World Pride, a family-friendly global event bringing LGBTQ+ folks and allies together for visibility, solidarity and fun - all of which we especially need today. And Quakers will be there! Sign-up here to join Quakers in the parade on Saturday, June 7th at 12:15. Sign-up here to hang out with other friendly Quakers and greet people at our festival booth on June 7th and 8th from noon to 7pm. Quaker literature and talking points provided. Hope to see you there!

Empowering Immigrants Support Network Resource
|
A BYM Friend shares a new training designed for organizations, including religious communities, about supporting immigrants in the current moment of increased federal anti-immigrant action. The video provides clear recommendations for the different ways organizations can prepare to support and protect immigrants within their community.

| AFSC at Cheaspeake Quarter, June 8 @ Annapolis
|
Chesapeake Quarter will meet on Sunday, June 8th at Annapolis Meeting and online via Zoom. The time together will begin at 9:30am and the afternoon will include Meeting for Sharing on what's going on in our Meetings begins at 9:30am, followed by Meeting for Worship at 11am, lunch, and we an after-lunch visit with Brian Blackmore, the Director of Quaker Engagement of the American Friends Service Committee. Chesapeake Quarter includes Annapolis, Gunpowder, Homewood, Little Falls, Patapsco, Patuxent, Sandy Spring, and Stony Run.

Silent Worship in Nature in Memory of Sheila Bach
|
Following a Memorial Meeting last week at Langley Hill Meeting, Friends Wilderness Center invite you to join on May 26th at 11am, in person or in spirit, to honor Sheila’s life and legacy, remember the generosity and compassion of Henry and Mary Cushing Niles, and fill FWC's new Space for Solace with Light and Love. We will hold silent worship and then will retire to the meadow at the Niles Cabin for light refreshments. For decades, Sheila inspired visitors to invest their Light in this mountain. In her memory, please come and integrate your spirit into the Space for Solace.

Congratulations, Graduating Friends!
|
It's graduation season, and we have so many joys to celebrate as a Yearly Meeting community! Join BYM Monthly Meetings and Quaker Camps as we celebrate our graduates and hold them in the Light as they journey further into adulthood.
Mandy Garman (Sandy Spring Friends Meeting) is graduating from Montgomery Blair High School. They will be starting at Earlham College in the fall.
Graham Hill (Charlottesville Friends Meeting) is graduating from Western Albemarle High School.Graham will be drumming and studying music education at the University of Maryland in the fall.
Amelia Bowman (Valley Friends Meeting), child of Vanessa Carter and Brandon Bowman, is graduating from Buffalo Gap High School, Amelia went to Shiloh Quaker Camp, Opequon Quaker Camp and two years of Teen Adventure. She liked TA so much she is planning to hike some of the Appalachian Trail again this summer.
Jack Shinkman (Herndon Friends Meeting) is graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology. He will be attending Grinnell College in Iowa this fall.
