Dear Friend,
The extraordinary amount of rain that we received this winter in the San Francisco Bay Area—where our U.S. office is headquartered—has produced a bounty of colorful flowers, happy plants, and smiling humans! It is a good reminder that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. Cause and effect. Just as the powerful rains encouraged picture-perfect “super blooms,” so our team’s hard, diligent work today will result in a better, healthier tomorrow for the women we serve. We’re busy planting seeds for what we anticipate will be a beautiful future, filled with more smiling women.
Between Mother’s Day (May 14) and the International Day to End Obstetric Fistula (May 23), May is filled with opportunities to spread the word about obstetric fistula, and to help women in need. Read more about what’s blooming now, and what’s getting ready to sprout, below.

You can help us reach more women with your voice! Share a special link—endfistula.day—with your network, and help us commemorate IDEOF around the world.

A New National Framework in Zambia
|
Zambia has a new framework—the Obstetric Fistula Strategic Plan 2022–2026—that will guide the provision of fistula care across the country. In collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund, Fistula Foundation supported the completion of Zambia’s first standalone plan to address the condition.
The new plan, approved on December 22, will officially launch on May 23 to commemorate the International Day to End Obstetric Fistula. It will serve as a tool for healthcare providers across Zambia who work in fistula prevention, fistula treatment, and the reintegration of fistula survivors into their communities.
