CRISTO REY MINNEAPOLIS - CHALLENGING TRADITIONS
President of Cristo Rey Jesuit High School - Twin Cities, Jeb Myers.
As technology and culture change, the role of education in society also evolves. However, the core purpose of education will always remain the same to empower people with information and skills to be successful so that they can create a better world. So how can schools and educators bring about change where it's needed?

One of our partner schools, Cristo Rey/Minneapolis has an idea on just how to do this. From freshman year, Cristo Rey schools establish a culture of high expectations by blending rigorous academic preparation and significant professional work experience through the Corporate Work-Study Program. This unique educational model has a powerful impact on students - demonstrating the world outside their neighborhoods, developing valuable workplace readiness skills, introducing them to inspirational role models and supportive mentors, and building the competence, confidence, and aspiration so important to college and career success.

This year, the RTSWS cohort at the Cristo Rey Jesuit High School in Twin Cities gave us a front-row seat to the hard work the administration and faculty put into the future of their students. Comprised of 37 college preparatory schools in 26 U.S. cities, Cristo Rey graduates are currently enrolling in college at (90%) - a rate greater than most low-income high school graduates (61%).

Thank you, Cristo Rey Network®, for working with us to challenge outdated traditions.
Sharon Bowen Breaks Barriers for Women
Sharon Bowen is breaking down barriers at Wall Street, becoming the first woman and first woman of color to be named board chair of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE).
“Why is diversity important? Think about it: who is buying and driving the demand for commodities? Surely, these consumers are not homogenous. So how can we achieve real growth and economic opportunity without women and minorities at the table?” – Sharon Bowen

Spring Mentorship – The Third Component in our Year-Long Program
Happening right now, RTSWS high school girls are enrolling in our Spring Mentorship Program where female financial pros provide guidance on academic improvement, preparing for college, finding and pursuing career interests, and overcoming life’s various obstacles.

Our ratio of two students-to-one mentor results in students carefully planning out the next stages of their lives – deciding on college majors/minors, job shadowing, and finding internships.
