Newly-funded DRI projects explore luminescence dating, fracking, and groundwater
DRI awards funding to several new faculty and staff projects each year through its Institute Project Assignment (IPA) competition. Winners of the IPA competition receive a research grant from DRI to pursue a topic that interests them and develop ideas that can ultimately be turned into externally funded research projects.
Projects funded in 2020 will explore new methods in luminescence dating, groundwater contamination around fracking operations, and the movement of groundwater through rocks and soils.

When commercial cannabis growing facilities were approved by the Nevada State Legislature just a few years ago, there were no emissions data nor industry standards to guide environmental and public health regulations.

Faced with this challenge, scientists from the DRI and managers from the Washoe County Health District forged ahead into the “Wild West” of air quality research.

At this Science Distilled, we invite you to consider the impacts of their preliminary research findings and the future of this industry in our state.
