"We have here only five loaves of bread and two fish." — Matthew 14:1
Have you ever looked at what you have and thought, "It's not enough!” Maybe you only have a little time to help someone. Maybe you think you're too young to make a difference. Maybe you feel like you aren't the fastest, smartest, or strongest.
That's exactly how Jesus' disciples felt one day. A huge crowd had gathered to hear Jesus teach. As evening came, everyone was hungry. The disciples looked around and found only five loaves of bread and two fish. "That's all we have!" they said. To them, it didn't seem like enough.
But Jesus saw something different.
He took the bread and fish, thanked God for them, blessed them, broke them, and shared them with everyone. And guess what happened? Everyone had enough to eat… and there were twelve baskets of leftovers!
Sometimes we focus on what we don't have. We might say things like…
"I'm just a kid."
"I only know one person at school."
"I only have a little money."
"I'm only good at one thing."
But Jesus doesn't ask us to have everything. He simply asks us to bring what we already have.
A smile can brighten someone's day. A kind word can encourage a friend. A prayer can comfort someone who is sad. Helping at home, sharing a toy, inviting someone to play, or being a good listener may seem small, but in God's hands, small things can become amazing blessings.
This week think about what your own "five loaves and two fish” might be.
What has God already given you? Maybe it’s…
A kind heart
A cheerful smile
A talent for drawing or music
A helping hand
A caring spirit
A love for Jesus
All of these are things that with Gods help we can use to make a difference in someone else’s life. Remember… God doesn't need us to have everything. He simply asks us to trust Him with what we have. When we place our gifts in Jesus' hands, He can do far more than we could ever imagine.
Dear Jesus,
Thank You for loving us and caring for us. Sometimes we think we don't have enough to give, but You remind us that You can do wonderful things with whatever we offer You. Help us to trust You, to share with others, and to use the gifts You have given us every day.
