Ups And Downs The First 2 Weeks Of December
Late Thanksgiving was a major factor in the sales drop last November. Thanksgiving fell on the latest possible day (Nov. 28), accounting for sales on the first week of December.
Independent grocers reported same-store sales for the first week of December were up 10.03 percent compared to December 2018. The consumer count, surprisingly, also saw a rise of 3.00 percent during the same period.
The story was different during the week after the holiday. According to independent grocers, same-store sales were down 4.47 percent the second week of December and so was the foot traffic by 1.51 percent.
