The Washington County Leaders Association (WCLA) and the Food Stand Committee have been informed by the State 4-H Office that the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP; datcp.wi.gov) has a state regulation regarding food stands at fairs. The regulation states that any food stand operating for four or more consecutive days must have at least one staff member or volunteer present whenever the food stand is open who holds, at a minimum, a ServSafe Food Handler certification to ensure safe food handling practices are followed.
This requirement can be met by completing the ServSafe Food Handler certification, a basic, short online course. The WCLA and Food Stand Committee are looking for individuals who may be interested in obtaining this certification. This is a great educational opportunity to learn what goes into operating a safe food service operation, and the resulting ServSafe Food Handler certification is valid for three years!
The online training takes just one to two hours to complete and costs $15, which the Washington County Leaders Association will fully reimburse. A receipt should be emailed to you when you register for and complete the online course. You may complete the course on your own at any time or join our group session on July 6 at 1:00 PM at the MPTC campus/4-H office (just bring your laptop). You will then be able to choose food stand shifts that fit your personal schedule.
If you would like to learn more and help us meet this safety requirement, please contact a committee member by June 30: Agnes Wagner (wagneragnes816@gmail.com), Sharon Kiselicka (skiselicka@hotmail.com), or Mariann Gundrum (lmacres@charter.net). Thank you for considering giving your “Hands to Larger Service” to our county!
