Taking the heat
The University of Tulsa will receive $1.5 million over two years to support materials research as part of the Defense Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research Capacity Building initiative. The federally funded project will enhance the university’s research infrastructure and capabilities. TU’s proposal focused on developing novel materials that can withstand extreme temperatures and environments, which are crucial for a wide range of applications such as fusion and defense.

Literary acclaim
The American Academy of Arts and Letters has announced that Boris Dralyuk, Presidential Professor of English & Creative Writing in Kendall College of Arts & Sciences, is a recipient of a 2024 Arts and Letters Award. The prize is given annually to eight writers in any genre to honor and encourage their creative work. It follows Dralyuk’s 2023 National Book Critics Circle’s Gregg Barrios Book in Translation Prize for “Grey Bees.” His latest book is “My Hollywood and Other Poems.”

Friends in high places
Collins College of Business’ Friends of Finance will celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2024-25. A unique concept in higher education, this community-based group encompasses an advisory board, monthly networking events for area business leaders, students, and alumni, and a scholarship fund. Since its inception, organizers have built a student-managed investment fund, which at times has surpassed $8 million and paid out $1 million in scholarships to over 200 students.
