Building Collective Power for Peace, Feb 14 |
Next Saturday, February 15th from 1pm - 4pm, the BYM Peace & Social Concerns Committee invites you to a special event on building collective power for a lasting peace in Israel & Palestine. The event will be facilitated by Young Adult Friends Kali & Mikayla from Adelphi Friends Meeting. All Friends who have been or are interested in taking action for peace are welcome! We will share what activities Friends have been taking in their monthly meetings and consider what collective action we might take together as Baltimore Yearly Meeting.

The next Young Friends Conference ("YF Con") will take place Feb 14-16 at Alexandria Meeting (please note the updated location!) BYM Young Friends is a community of 9th-12th graders that builds community, nurtures the personal and spiritual growth of all youth and adult participants, and provides opportunities to take an active part in the broader community of Religious Society of Friends. Registration closes Feb 11th!

| Faith & Play Training at Sandy Spring Meeting, March 21-23
|
The Sandy Spring Friends Meeting Religious Education Committee is hosting a Faith and Play training taught by Melinda Wenner-Bradley, taking place at the Sandy Spring Meetinghouse, March 21-23. Faith and Play is a story-based spiritual formation curriculum for children. ALL members of the BYM community are welcome to register. Registration costs will be covered by the SSMM RE Committee, so cost should not be a limiting factor. Anyone with questions can reach out to recoord@sandyspring.org.

Maryland Legislative Forum at Chesapeake QM, Feb 9
|
Chesapeake Quarterly Meeting will take place at Homewood Friends Meeting on Feb 9th in-person and online via Zoom. The schedule is as follows:
- 8:30 - Welcome

9:15 - CQM Meeting for Sharing
- 10:30 - Meeting for Worship
- 12:00 - Lunch
- 1:10- Legislative Forum
- 2:30 - Conclusion and Farewell
We will hear from the Maryland Alliance for Justice Reform, Quaker Voice of Maryland, and Friends Committee on National Legislation. All Friends are welcome to attend. RSVPs are requested by Jan 31.

| Responding to Threats to Trans & Nonbinary people

The BYM Working Group on Welcoming Trans and Non-Binary Friends is alarmed by the anti-trans rhetoric that was used during the national election and the attempts to translate that rhetoric into legislative and policy changes. The Working Group has suggestions for what Meetings can do to become places of welcome and refuge to people of all genders
- Learn & grow. As a working group, we are happy to visit your Meeting to give a workshop on this topic. In addition, this brochure on Welcome is available - and the BYM Office can send you paper copies.

Miles White Beneficial Society Grants & Scholarships Open for Proposals
|
The Miles White Beneficial Society of Baltimore City (MWBS) is now accepting applications for their scholarship program and for their non-profit organization granting program. Scholarships of up to $7,000 are available for undergraduate and trade school students. Grants of up to $10,000 are available to non-profit organizations. The deadline for both applications is March 7, 2025 with funding decisions by May 20, 2025.

| Friendly Persuasion Advocacy Trainings, Feb 2-7
|
Quaker Voices of Maryland and Erinn Camp Mansour (Patapsco) invite you to a week of legislative advocacy training and action for F/friends. Trainings include Friendly Persuasion Intro to Advocacy and continued learning in Exploring Advocacy. The week of action includes a CASA rally at the MD legislature on Feb 4th and a MD congressional meeting about the nuclear weapons policy.

Camp is Coming! Support STRIDE
|
Camp planning is in full-swing, and STRIDE is renewing our efforts to support campers and their families. Support STRIDE by:
- Attending one of our Orientation Hikes as a supporter
-
Supporting a camper and their family by driving them to an Orientation Hike
- Dropping Gear Pack at camps before camp or picking them up and returning them to the office
- Picking up or dropping off campers at camp

Dropping off Care Packages at camp in person

Since 1947, the Doomsday Clock is a metaphor for the threats to humanity from unchecked technological advances. On Monday, Quakers from BYM and two other Yearly Meetings took legal action to prevent armed immigration enforcement in our Meetings and on our properties.
If your meeting experiences intimidation or other hostile behavior related to their care for immigrant Friends or neighbors, or due to awareness of Friends' involvement in this suit which has gained national attention, or any other concerning activities, please communicate immediately with Yearly Meeting General Secretary Sarah Gillooly at 301-658-3379 or at GenSec@bym-rsf.org
