TIPQC SMM Data Institute Site Visits & Webinar

Severe Maternal Morbidities (SMM) have an average rate of 1.03% nationally and are based on 21 indicators. SMM may be adapted by The Joint Commission as a performance measure, and have shown to be improved through quality improvement initiatives. During the TIPQC Data Institute, each hospital received their SMM Rates. In 2022 Tennessee had a SMM rate of 81.4/ 10,000 deliveries.

AIM SMM Review forms are available on our website along with guidance in perfomring these. AIM also released a learning sprint addressing the when, why, and how for a SMM Review.

TIPQC Cardiac Concerns in OB Care

Cardiac conditions remain the #1 cause of maternal deaths in the last 5 years in Tennessee. Join this AIM project on identification and treatment - and save our moms' lives. Applications are currently being accepted. This project kicks off on October 15.

TIPQC is delighted to purchase AWHONN’s Respectful Maternity Care (RMC) Framework and Toolkit for all teams participating in the new BEST FOR ALL Joint Maternal and Infant Learning Collaborative. AWHONN’s RMC Framework and Toolkit walks teams through implementing the 10 Step “C.A.R.E. P.A.A.T.T.H.” within their organization. Through this toolkit, teams can commit to providing respectful care to “every patient, every interaction, every time!” Reach out to Anastacia.volz@vumc.org if you are interested in joining this learning collaborative and having access to this amazing resource. Every hospital is invited to join, and applications are still being taken.

AWHONN OPS Training

September 10 and 11, 2024 the HCA SIMS Learning Center hosted the National AWHONN Obstetric Patient Safety: OB Emergencies Workshop 3rd Edition for the first time in Tennessee. The Obstetric Patient Safety (OPS): Obstetric Emergencies Workshop 3rd Edition is designed to help clinicians identify, assess, and manage the care for patients with an obstetric emergency through simulation and debriefing. After this training, Tennessee now has trained instructors!

IRTH App comes to Memphis

The #1 “Yelp-like” platform for the pregnancy and new motherhood journey, made by and for people of color.

The Irth App, a project of Narrative Nation, Inc., has a proven track record of leveraging consumer forces as a tool for birth equity, driving transparency and accountability in the medical system, and creating a new source of data sets that centers the lived experience of maternity and infant care of Black birthing people needed to reduce Black maternal and infant mortality disparities.
