The drama over the Navy's underground fuel storage facility at Red Hill continues. Thousands of military and civilian families, as well as several schools, have not been able to use their tap water and many people are still living out of hotels. Questions remain about the future of the fuel tanks and the threat they pose to Oʻahu's water supply.

| Final thought… I was recently reminded by a longtime PBS Hawaiʻi supporter, a well-respected educator and community leader, of the important role PBS Hawaiʻi plays in the community. His email reminded me how vital it is that we maintain the highest standards of integrity, balance and fairness in all we do. His message reminded me of the tremendous responsibility that comes with providing a safe and trusted space for dialogue and content. I thanked him for his insight and his wisdom.
It's been said, "a plan without action, is not a plan, it is a speech." I hate speeches. We will continue to consistently ask ourselves: Are we being balanced and fair? Are we pushing an agenda? Are we providing a voice for the voiceless? Are we listening? If, and when we fail or fall short, we will own it, address it and fix it. Without taking those actions, we lose trust. In this week's INSIGHTS ON PBS HAWAIʻI: PROTECTING OʻAHU’S WATER SOURCE, we made every effort to invite all sides of this complexed and important community issue. Some agreed to participate, others declined. That's not uncommon. Do we proceed with a program without all sides at the table? In this case, we emphatically said yes. Our job now is to execute with integrity, balance and fairness… and we will. Thank you for your trust…
