To Our Stony Brook Community:
Last year, we launched our Middle States Accreditation Reaffirmation, a university-wide process of evaluating how effective we are at educating and supporting our students, and an important federal requirement for financial aid and research.
Our Reaffirmation team, consisting of approximately 100 faculty, staff, students and other key stakeholders, produced and submitted our Self-Study Design, outlining the organization and processes we would undertake to demonstrate our compliance with seven Middle States standards. Middle States favorably reviewed our Design and offered helpful feedback, which was integrated into the final copy.
In the months since submitting our Design, the Reaffirmation team has comprehensively identified and catalogued hundreds of pieces of evidence demonstrating our compliance with Middle States standards. To obtain this data, working groups collaborated with dozens of academic and administrative units across Stony Brook, and have drafted outlines that will form the basis of the full Self-Study Report due in Fall 2023. A team of Middle States evaluators will then come to SBU for a full site visit in April 2024.
We look forward to providing you with updates and opportunities for community feedback in the months ahead, including a town hall discussion on December 5, which you’ll receive additional information about in the next few weeks. And we encourage you to visit our Middle States Accreditation Reaffirmation website, which contains helpful resources and documents such as our Self-Study Design.
Sincerely,
