International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) is looking forward to welcoming you to our community and hopes that you are excited to begin your studies at Miami University.
Our office assists international students with transitioning to the U.S., maintaining legal status, and making the most of their academic experience. We also provide comprehensive and on-going cultural and social programs and events for students. The ISSS team and the rest of Global Initiatives are located in MacMillan Hall. Please note that all new international students will be charged a one-time administrative services fee, which will appear on your Miami bill.

Spring 2021 Orientation

In order to ensure flexibility and safety for all Miami students new to campus for Spring 2021, ISSS will offer an online orientation program and then a safe in-person check-in after students arrive on campus. The International Student Online Orientation Program is mandatory for all new students. You will receive an invitation to a Canvas (Miami's learning management system) course called International Student Online Orientation next week if you have confirmed your enrollment. Accept this invitation and you can begin completing the course. Please note that you will need to enroll in Duo to access Canvas (see below).
Orientation includes three main components:
  • asynchronous online content in Canvas
  • a real-time orientation welcome session and other student life sessions on Zoom (January 20, 22, 2021; details and links will be shared in future newsletter).
  • check-in with ISSS to confirm your arrival to Miami University (required by the U.S. government). Please visit ISSS webpage for check in dates and location
We understand that you have many questions about arrival to campus. Please keep checking your inbox for emails from international@MiamiOH.edu that will help answer many of your questions as you begin your journey to Miami University.

Duo Two-Factor Authentication

Duo
In order to access Miami University resources, you will need to be enrolled in Duo, our two-factor authentication tool. When you first try to log in to a Miami resource (myMiami, BannerWeb, Canvas, etc.), you will be prompted to enroll in Duo. Then, whenever you log in to your Miami accounts after that, you will be asked to authenticate with Duo.
You should be able to set up Duo on mobile phones in most countries. Follow the instructions for setting up a smartphone with Duo. If you are a new student in China and have difficulty enrolling in Duo, you can request a temporary bypass of the Duo system until you arrive on campus.

ISSS InterLink E-form

All international students are required to submit forms for Spring 2021 to indicate their study plans. Students should follow these instructions:
  • Log in to InterLink, navigate to Spring 2021 in the menu on the left, and then "Spring 2021 Study Plan Confirmation.
  • In this form, you will indicate where you will be located for spring semester (inside or outside the U.S.), and whether you will be enrolled full-time, part-time, or deferring your admission.
  • This form must be submitted by January 25, but should ideally be submitted before January 15.

Healthy Together and Attendance Options

Central to the Miami University experience for the upcoming semester is the Healthy Together Plan. If you will be studying on campus, please make sure to regularly check the Healthy Together webpage for updates. All students need to choose their attendance option for Spring 2021 by January 15. Please carefully review the attendance options and frequently asked questions and make your selection.

Meet your iPOL

An important part of the orientation process is connecting with your International Peer Orientation Leader (iPOL). Your iPOL will reach out to you in January and assist you throughout the orientation process and your transition to college. Meet your iPOL:

“Hi everyone, my name is Cecelia Johanni. I'm from Cleveland, Ohio. I'm a rising junior studying strategic communication with a co-major in global & intercultural studies. One day, I hope to do public relations work for a non-profit organization. On campus, I'm involved in Alpha Phi Omega which is a national service fraternity. Most of my favorite memories at Miami involve working on community service projects with the friends I've met through this organization. My advice to new students is to get involved on campus and try new things!"
