Tree Inventory Update: 2018 Parks Announced
Data collection during park tree inventory. Volunteer, Hakima, measures the height of a tree with a clinometer.
Park Tree Inventory uses mobile data collection along with other forestry tools such as diameter tapes to measure trunk size, and clinometers and laser range finders to determine tree height.

The leaves are starting to pop, which can only mean one thing: inventory season is just around the corner!

Congratulations to all the Neighborhood Tree Teams whose parks were accepted for this year’s inventory. Urban Forestry will be working with these groups over the next 6 months to recruit volunteers and inventory every tree in each of these parks. Among this year’s list are some of Portland’s most iconic parks and some of our most glorious trees. Below is the list of this year’s parks—if you are interested in joining your neighborhood group in organizing these events, send an email to treeinventory@portlandoregon.gov.

Save the Date! Portland's Arbor Day Celebration is Saturday, April 21st

Arbor Day is coming up! Not only is this a great chance to meet new people in an outdoor setting, but you can also learn how and why trees are important to your friends and neighbors all across the city. For example, did you know that trees planted in the right locations can:
  • Reduce your energy bills (heating and cooling cost savings)
  • Improve air quality
  • Screen out or reduce noise
Arbor Day will include food, live music, tree-themed family fun events, tree climbing demonstrations and free tree giveaways. This year we will be joined by over 15 community partners with great activities and information on how to connect with the trees in your community.
We need your help! Arbor Day posters are hot off the press, and we want to get the word out. Sign up here to receive free posters to hang where you know they'll be seen.
