Update from YWCA Phyllis Wheatley Center: New Director and Virtual Home Away from Home
The YWCA Phyllis Wheatley Center is under the new leadership of Monica Smith-Albright!
YWCA welcomed Monica in August, and she has since been hard at work preparing for the fall semester.
Many of our youth are enrolled in the Virtual Learning program, and we know that many need extra support and guidance with navigating these new waters.
Thus, the Phyllis Wheatley Center has launched the Virtual Home Away from Home Program to serve youth who have opted for the virtual learning experience.
40 young people will be served daily at the facility, safety distanced, while receiving support from Phyllis Wheatley staff and volunteers to complete their virtual learning assignments.
Wondering how you can help serve youth? Here are some options:
Because of supporters like you, the virtual Keys of Hope Luncheon raised over $140,000 for women and families throughout the Tennessee Valley. Thank you to those who joined us! If you are interested in viewing our virtual event click the link below.

Classroom Remodel at Phyllis Wheatley Center Thanks to Help from Clayton!

The 2,000 square-foot modular classroom at the Phyllis Wheatley Center received an overdue and much-needed re-fresh with the help of volunteers from Clayton. Since February, Clayton volunteers have been working tirelessly on the modular, even amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The newly renovated classroom offers space for the Phyllis Wheatley Center to safely provide the new Virtual Home Away From Home Program for youth who have opted for remote learning this semester.
Special thank you to Chuck Morgan, Vice President of Clayton Home Building Group® Site Construction and all of the volunteers for sharing your time and treasures with us!
