Dynamics of Asian Business Field Study Trip to India
After spending the semester immersed in the political, social, and economic history of India, 12 students led by Myles Elledge, director of the Babson Center, traveled to India to learn more about its emerging markets and to meet executives in multiple industries. When discussing the rapidly growing economy and need for progress in technology and innovation, CEO Ashish Khanna of Tata Power Renewable Energy said, "The biggest challenges are the biggest business opportunities." The Sewanee group visited five cities and 17 companies, gaining insight into business trends and experiencing the country's culture during weekend excursions. View the itinerary here.
"Being able to sit down and talk with some of the largest players in the Asian business world as well as being exposed to the extremely unique culture of India has been an impactful and unique experience that is impossible to achieve through simply reading and learning about these topics in a classroom." —Sam Lane, C'25

Rising junior Carey Fellows spent a summer in Sewanee taking two academic classes and meeting as a cohort to prepare for internship interviews. Weekly workshops helped the students enhance their skills—CliftonStrengths assessment to boost their leadership skills, LinkedIn tools to create a stronger network, and elevator pitches for compelling introductions—getting them ready for September internship applications for their spring semester-long internships.

The Babson Center Made a Splash at the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) Program and Sewanee DataLab
Carey Fellow Kabir Menon, C'25, participated in the SURF program with his mentor, Assistant Professor of Biology Jose Iriarte-Diaz. They spent the summer comparing the landing patterns of different bird species. The culmination of the fellowship was the SURF Research Frenzy, where students presented their findings to the public.
DataLab 2023 brought together 21 students from universities across the country to learn coding and data analysis skills and apply these talents to an extensive consulting project. For eight weeks, student teams worked on five pressing problems in public health, refugee assistance, equitable access to housing and food, and student well-being. Babson Center Director Myles Elledge served as the consulting team mentor for the public health team looking at access to primary care and emergency room overuse in rural Tennessee.
