Notre Dame's Social Media Channels Almost Hacked
- Campus Wifi Update
- Zoom Upgrade
|

|
|
It can happen to anybody. Recently, Liz Harter, Notre Dame's Senior Social Media Manager was hooked by a serious phishing scam.
|
"We often think 'oh I’m smarter than that.' I literally had alarm bells ringing in my head and was still engaging with the scammer."
-Liz Harter - Senior Social Media Manager, Notre Dame
|
In her LinkedIn post, Liz shows you exactly what happened to her when she received a Facebook message appearing to be linked to a business account.
The moral of the story remains: it is critical to slow down and breathe for a minute before taking action on any message asking you to hand over sensitive information. Remember to look for the warning signs when an email claims you have to address a major issue with one of your accounts.

Students Heavily Targeted |
Phishing activity is ramping up again, just in time for summer. Scammers found an easy target: students looking for jobs.
What it looks like:
An email shows up in your inbox offering potential remote work. The high pay and low hours required is appealing - plus they reached out to you without you even inquiring! Seems like a cool opportunity, BUT IT IS A SCAM.
While this scam can happen to anyone - the target is most often students. Be vigilant, and if you or someone you know receives an email similar to what was described above, report it.

Campus WiFi: Run the Updated Eduroam Utility |
What is new
Due to recent changes to the eduroam wireless service, you are encouraged to re-run the eduroam setup utility at eduroam.nd.edu.
How to update
Instructions are available in this knowledge article. Be sure to update the utility on all your wireless-capable devices.
NOTE: To run the utility on an iPhone or iPad, you must use the Safari browser. The utility will not work on iOS devices using the Chrome browser. For a laptop or Android device, use the Chrome browser.
Why it matters
Everyone with a Notre Dame NetID should connect to eduroam instead of ND-guest.
|
- Eduroam is a secure network
- Many IT services are not accessible on ND-guest such as Banner, Remote Apps, CorpFS, SharePoint, GLez, PeopleEZ, Business Objects, etc.

Account Lifecycle Helps "Green Up" ND's Digital Footprint
|
Since March 2024, the account lifecycle and storage project removed over 500TB (terabytes) of stored data from inactive faculty, staff and student accounts.
Files contained in those accounts totaled over 500TB (terabytes) of stored data. This is equivalent to approximately 137 trillion printed pages—filling about 28 billion banker boxes.
Moving forward, all inactive accounts and the content associated with them will be deleted after one year. Make it a habit to store any files and folders you want to share in Google Shared drives or a Box Group account to avoid content access issues.
