Message from the DirectorDuring March it has been really wonderful to welcome students back to campus and see an essence of normal life returning. I have hosted our first external visitors for the year, including the U.S. Embassy Charge d’Affaires, Michael Goldman on a tour of the Sydney Nanoscience Hub and Dr Katerina Agostino, Chief of Aerospace Division, Defence Science and Technology Group and look forward to hosting more engagements each week. I am very excited to announce our new Sydney Nano Kickstarter NanoEnergised led by A Prof Ali Abbas, School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering which links to our strategic initiative in Smart Sustainable Buildings with additional potential in the medical space. Also announcing the inaugural Sydney Nano ECR Development Nodes, a program for ECRs to develop their academic and leadership skills by building and leading a multi-disciplinary research team. The EoI is open now and you can join a Zoom Q&A session with our Deputy Director A Prof Alice Motion on April 6. You are invited to join us tomorrow for the Sydney Nano Meet the Author: A conversation with Dr. Nicholas Hunt, and more events coming up throughout April. Don’t forget you can always catch up on past events on our YouTube channel. I wish you a restful and reenergising Easter break. Professor Ben Eggleton

New Kickstarter: NanoEnergised
Announcing the new Sydney Nano Kickstarter NanoEnergised led by A Prof Ali Abbas, School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering which links to our strategic initiative in Smart Sustainable Building with additional potential in the medical space.
The NanoEnergised Kickstarter aims at development of novel nano phase change materials (nano-PCMs) for energy harvesting and storage of low and ultra-low temperature heat. These nano-PCMs have the potential to form a platform technology for a myriad of applications and becoming the ‘secret sauce’ in numerous new technology creations. This project will specifically focus on a high-efficiency heat battery device for nanoenergised applications in solar roof structures and biomedical wearable technology.

Inaugural Sydney Nano ECR Development NodesSydney Nano is now offering a new program for the development and training of our Early Career Researchers (ECRs). The program aims to provide ECRs with the opportunity to build and lead a multi-disciplinary research team to gain practical experience in leadership and academic skills combined with mentorship and training from senior colleagues. The duration of a node is 12-months and will receive significant support but not funding from Sydney Nano. More details here. If you have any questions or to receive an invitation to join a Zoom Q&A session with our Deputy Director A Prof Alice Motion on April 6 at 3.30pm please email sydneynano.admin. Submission deadline is Sunday May 2, 2021 at 23.59pm.
