February Is Islam Awareness Month: Muslim Call to Prayer
Fridays in February, 1:45 p.m., Call to Prayer: Cox Hall; Friday Prayer: Cannon Chapel
The Emory Muslim Students Association and the Graduate Muslim Student Council celebrate the month of February as Islam Awareness Month and, by longstanding tradition, the Muslim call to prayer ( adhan) is played on Fridays after the 1:45 p.m. chimes from the Cox Hall carillon. This call to prayer announces the time for Jumu'ah prayers, the weekly communal prayer held on Fridays at 1:55 p.m. in Cannon Chapel. The call to prayer is a general statement of Islamic belief and a summons to prayer, traditionally recited from mosque minarets five times a day. Soul Food Gospel Fest

The Office of Spiritual and Religious Life and Emory's Voices of Inner Strength Gospel Choir will be hosting Soul Food Gospel Fest on Sunday, February 18 from 3-5 p.m. in the Emory Student Center Multipurpose Rooms.
Soul Food Gospel Fest is an event designed to bring together various groups in the community and to celebrate the love of Jesus and Black History Month. There will be gospel music from various gospel choirs from around Georgia, liturgical dance, spoken word, trivia, and games. Soul food and refreshments will also be served.

International Outreach Award Presented to Venerable Priya Rakkhit Sraman, Emory University's Buddhist Chaplain
The Emory Office of Global Strategy and Initiatives "International Outreach Award" was created in 2012 to recognize an Emory staff member who:
- Has made significant contributions to Emory's internationalization through the programs, schools, and units in which they serve;
- Demonstrates initiative and creativity in establishing new programming, procedures, or structures that foster international engagement;
- Extends Emory's reputation by contributing their expertise to international professional networks in their respective field; and
- Devotes significant time and energy to facilitating cultural exchange or international understanding.
Since arriving at Emory during the COVID19 pandemic, Emory's Buddhist Chaplain Venerable Priya Rakkhit Sraman has helped to significantly increase the activities of Emory's Buddhist community, enlarging and adding new meditation sessions, facilitating the design of new Buddhist shrines for Cannon Chapel and the Interfaith Center, organizing the community to care for the Living Mandala Garden at Cannon Chapel, adding cherished programs such as off-campus retreats, Bodhi Day, Full Moons, and Buddhist arts and service projects, and building relationships with the diverse Buddhist communities of Atlanta. He has also supported our community through memorials and pastoral care, including intersectional support in times of Anti-Asian racism, making Emory a more inclusive place for all. He is active in the new Association of Buddhist Chaplains and has taught at Harvard and Princeton. Congratulations to Venerable Priya Sraman on receiving this award. Learn more here.

Recap: Buddhist Chaplaincy Full Moon Observance
On Thursday, January 25, the Emory Buddhist Chaplaincy and Emory Buddhist Club hosted a Full Moon Observance (uposatha), which is an occasion for deepening one’s spiritual practice in the Buddhist tradition. During the Full Moon Meditation Gathering, the Emory Buddhist community meditated and contemplated on our commitment to the spiritual path and spiritual community. Our community discussed the importance of regularly evaluating our spiritual commitment and exchanged reflections on values to focus on for the safety and growth of the group.

Emory Interfaith Center Open Hours
The Emory Intefaith Center is a place for worship, prayer, meditation, and retreat on campus for Emory's diverse spiritual communities that also fosters interfaith engagement, education, dialogue, service, and social justice work. It is a home away from home for Emory's diverse spiritual communities, as well as a gateway between the campus and the Atlanta community and world beyond.
The center encompasses spacious and flexible sacred spaces, community and meeting rooms for hospitality, gatherings, studying, and retreats, as well as nearby offices for Emory's multifaith chaplaincy staff, interns, and student workers.
Hours of operation:
