Spotlight on Research 
For the spring edition, the PMI Grants team checked in with Dr. Andrew Monteith, Postdoctoral Fellow in the Skaar laboratory.  Monteith hails from the Chicagoland area, and embarked on a career in science with the aim of advancing human health.  Here, Monteith  shares thoughts on his current work, research goals, and suggestions for funding acquisition.

Looking for guidance on your federal or nonfederal grant application?  The Office of Research and the PMI Research Awards Administration website,    offer a diverse array of grant-writing resources including VUMC grant-ready text, tips from NIH, as well links to internal and external sources to aid in your proposal development.  

CDMRP Webinar Series
The Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP) presents a webinar series on types of funding opportunities offered and strategies to increase the success of applications submitted to different CDMRP programs. The first of these webinars is titled “Funding Opportunities and Strategies for Success” and is posted on the CDMRP website.

NIH Reminders from OSP
The Office of Sponsored Programs recently posted a reminder regarding non-conformity with NIH application requirements and possible consequences, including application withdrawal during the receipt, referral, and review process. Examples include non-compliant biosketches, disallowed materials, and applications submitted late.

2019 FNIH Trailblazer Prize for Clinician-Scientists recognizes the outstanding contributions of early career clinician-scientists whose work has the potentional to or has lead to innovations in patient care. $10,000 honorarium and prize.  Nominations due 03/29.
 NIH S10 program Internal proposals. Shared Instrumentation Grant (SIG): $50,000-$600,000.  High-End Instrumentation Grant (HEI): $600,000-$2,000,000.  Shared Instrumentation for Animal Research (SIFAR) Grant: $50,000 - $750,000. Due April 2.  Please contact amy.f.martinez@vumc.org.
2019 V Foundation Translation Research Awards- Adult Cancer Research. $200,000 directs/yr (including 10% indirects) for three years.  Internal applcations due 03/28, full application, 05/30.
Vanderbilt O’Brien Kidney Center (VOKC) and Vanderbilt Center for Kidney Disease (VCKD) Pilot and Feasibility Awards The VOKC/VCKD are seeking applications for pilot project proposals. Deadline 04/01$25,000-$40,000/yr in direct costs.
