Council Member Jennie Robinson listens to County Commissioner Phil Riddick speak at her Town Hall event on Oct. 30, 2023.
District 3 Town Hall Recap
Thank you to all those who attended Monday’s District 3 Town Hall at Challenger Gymnasium. Attendees received progress reports on several projects, including the Sandra Moon Community Complex, which nears completion after hitting a snag with an electrical issue. This is going to be a wonderful space for local arts groups to plan and create. Thanks to Parks & Recreation Director James Gossett and Arts Huntsville’s Allison Dillon-Jauken for the update.

County Commissioner Phil Riddick also shared plans for a new entertainment center at Ditto Landing that will be housed at the old State Docks. Learn more about this joint project with the City below. Commissioner Riddick also highlighted other joint projects, including the new playground at the Moon Complex and a "rails with trails" project that would create a multi-use path along the railroad.

Council Member Robinson also introduced Madison Roberts, the new Executive Director of South Huntsville Main, who talked about upcoming holiday events and why it’s important to shop local. She’ll be a great champion for the South Huntsville business community.
Honoring a D3 Champion

The Community Foundation recently asked Council Member Robinson to help honor Bill and Brenda Roark as the recipients of the 2023 Philanthropist of the Year. Because she's in a unique position to see individuals do meaningful work, she was pleased for the opportunity to describe Bill and Torch Technologies' impact on District 3:
"Years ago, Bill and Torch's leadership team considered a move from South Parkway to Cummings Research Park. To see such a large contractor shutter their large office complex would have been a huge loss.
"In conversations with Bill and Torch's leadership team, Mayor Battle explained losing Torch as the City worked to revitalize the area could mean losing the whole corridor. Bill’s response was, 'We don’t want to see that happen. How can we work with you?'
"The company remained and ultimately added three more buildings as well as the beautiful Freedom Center. These endeavors, from a company aptly named Torch, helped spark the revitalization of a once-declining area.
"The Torch team took a risk because Bill Roark believes in building community."

Making a Difference
We are so proud of local volunteer Dennis Mitchell, who has worked with Huntsville's Green Team for several years to help beautify our community. Mr. Mitchell was honored Monday at the District 3 Town Hall for his work painting more than 350 fire hydrants in our area. From the hydrants down South Memorial Parkway to John Hunt Park and beyond, Mr. Mitchell's efforts are to be commended for helping keep our community safe and clean.

Music Fans, Rejoice!
One of the world's largest music festival producers, C3 Presents, is bringing a large-scale festival featuring internally acclaimed artists to Huntsville's John Hunt Park.
The Huntsville festival is set for 2025 but organizers say it could happen as early as late September 2024. Factors affecting timing for the event include talent acquisition and logistics. C3 Presents estimates about 30,000 people will attend the first year.
