   AUGUST DEADLINES
With five days left until the start of Fall 2023, we’re counting down until classes begin on Monday, Aug. 21. Here are some important reminders about upcoming deadlines to keep in mind:

Students boarding campus shuttle bus
   UNT CAMPUS SHUTTLE
The Denton County Transportation Authority (DCTA) is partnering with UNT again this school year to provide free campus shuttle services. Explore the 14 university route maps and check out the service calendar to plan your commute around campus this semester. Current Summer 2023 schedules will remain in effect through Friday, Aug. 18, and the Fall 2023 schedule will start Saturday, Aug. 19.
Download the Transit app to track all DCTA buses in real time and sign up for DCTA Rider Alerts to receive an email or text message if your route is experiencing issues or delays.
Green and white UNT Spirit Bell
   TRADITIONS OF SPIRIT
The Spirit Bell is one of the longest traditions at UNT, dating back to 1891 when the original bell was brought to Denton from Michigan. It served as a call to change classes and also signaled curfew. After cracks were discovered, the old bell was retired and the search for its replacement began. Do you know what year the new bell was found to replace the old one? Send an email with the correct answer and 10 randomly selected students will each win a Mean Green prize pack. The answer will be announced in the next UNT Weekly issue.
Make sure to follow UNT on Instagram and keep up with the Traditions highlight added each week!

   WEEK OF WELCOME
Whether you’re a new or returning student, the first week back is always full of changes. UNT wants you to be prepared as you begin the semester and will set up Week of Welcome Tents from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 21, and Tuesday, Aug. 22. Take a look at the tent locations to know where to stop if you have questions or need directions.
UNT at Frisco will have information tables in the Frisco Landing lobby from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. during the first two weeks of classes to answer questions and connect students with campus resources.
North Texas Fair & Rodeo carnival rides
   NORTH TEXAS FAIR & RODEO
Giddy-up, North Texas! Grab your boots and cowfolk gear for the 95th annual North Texas Fair & Rodeo at 2217 N Carroll Blvd in Denton. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18, for nine days of Texan fun, including live country music, first-class rodeos, carnival rides, games, fried fair food and more. Due to extreme heat, the midway and carnival rides will have a delayed opening around 7 p.m. each day.
Join us for UNT Day from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25, at the Main Gate East entrance. Students, staff and faculty who show their UNT ID at the gate will receive $5 off their ticket price. The first 300 people to visit the UNT Tent will get a free UNT branded item while supplies last. See y’all there!
