Follow Safety Protocols With Alligators
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service recently euthanized a 10-foot alligator determined to be behaving abnormally near Haysland Road. Alligator sightings in the wetlands along Haysland have been more frequent in recent years and the City in 2021 placed signs along the walking trail warning residents to be aware of alligators. Additional signs were posted two years later. The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources said the first step in alligator safety is to simply leave them alone. Other tips include never feeding alligators and always being alert when near a potential natural habitat.

Project Lifesaver to Play Critical Role
Huntsville Police (HPD) is working toward enacting Project Lifesaver, a support system for those prone to wandering off while suffering from issues such as Alzheimer's, autism or brain injuries. Once in place, HPD can deploy specialized tracking equipment as soon as a 911 call is received. HPD expects to have the national program active by the end of the year and it will be a service available for free.

D3 Cleanups in May Make Difference
D3 is looking a lot cleaner after volunteers worked on two cleanups in May. On May 10, more than 40 volunteers came together at Ditto Landing to collect more than 50 bags of litter. Thank you to Heart of the Valley YMCA and Green Team for organizing the cleanup. A week later at a Green Team cleanup, volunteers removed litter from more than four miles of roadway, helped restore a cemetery and wrapped up a tree mulching project on Aldridge Creek Greenway. A digital high-five to all who stepped up to help their community, including the Grissom High football team.
