Chocolate Covered February

Can you find the Hershey's Kisses?

All month, we'll have a Hershey's Kisses Scavenger Hunt throughout the Museum.
See how many you can spy!

Take in the scenery in the 1920s area of our main gallery.   Did you know that these murals were hand-painted by Pennsylvania artist David Naydock?   They depict downtown Hershey's chocolate avenue in the 1920s.

Paint Me A Magic Bus

Arts Activity for Kids and Families
Saturday, March 14 from 11:00 am - 2:00 pm
Hitch a ride back to the ’60s on the epic Woodstock LIGHT Bus with artist Dr. Bob Hieronimus (the artist who painted LIGHT the Woodstock Bus)!
Spend a special afternoon as Dr. Bob joins with Arlene Sorensen, lead Teaching Artist at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts (the original site of the iconic Woodstock festival) and take part in an interactive art project that is kid-centered, but will appeal to adults as well.
You will have the opportunity to create your very own “Magic Bus!”
Explore symbols of the 1960s, their significance, and their meanings today. Make your own symbols through an art activity that will empower you to inspire others to promote and spread the message of peace, love, and community, which is the mission of the Aquarian Age.
This program is included with your AACA Museum admission along with the art supplies. It will be an “open house” format so you can feel free to come at any time from 11:00 am -2:00 pmSuggested age range: 6 and older.
Dr. Bob Hieronimus will be providing an overview of the bus at 11:00 am but will be available for questions throughout the event.

World-Class Collection of 5,000 Model Buses is Donated to the AACA Museum

The year was 1976, and John Dockendorf was beginning his position as Chief of the Urban Transit Division of PennDot’s Bureau of Public Transportation. Given his job, he thought it would be nice to decorate his office with some model buses, and so began his life-long passion.
What began as an office decorating project turned into a collection of more than 5,000 toy and model buses ranging from 1915 to the present. John has become one of the world’s foremost authorities on model buses. His collection includes cast iron, plastic, and die-cast from a variety of manufacturers, including Arcade, Kenton, Marx, Corgi, Dinky, and others. What’s his favorite bus? A 1930 vintage Pickwick Nite Coach. It was the bus industry’s attempt to provide a Pullman-type sleeper service.
Thank you John Dockendorf!

An Inside Look at the World of Shelby Mustangs

Presented by Shelby Engineer Chuck Cantwell
Hear from Shelby engineer Chuck Cantwell – often called “Mr. GT350.”  As a Shelby engineer, test driver, and SCCA driving champion Chuck Cantwell has a story to tell!

Asked by fans and friends for many years to write a book about his adventures with Carroll Shelby, he partnered with co-author Greg Kolasa to give Mustang and Shelby fanatics an inside look at the world of Shelby Mustangs.

Join us at the AACA Museum on National Mustang Day, Friday, April 17th to learn how this fascinating tale of Shelby history was written into the pages of “Shelby Mustang GT350.”

Learn how famous Shelby racing names such as Ken Miles, Jerry Titus, and Pete Brock are woven into this story of Shelby lore.  This program begins at 1:30 pm.

Chuck Cantwell’s program is included with Museum admission.  Please register to attend when purchasing your ticket so we can be prepared for appropriate seating. The program is FREE to Museum members, but you will still need to register to attend.

Drive History Conference Banner

The International Drive History Conference is the first event of its kind known to have taken place in North America. The event brings together scholars, practitioners, hobbyists, students, among others, who are interested in the history and preservation of motor vehicle heritage. At the conference, exchange ideas and learn from one other about how the preservation of motor vehicle heritage can be made a more centrist part of the historic preservation field with respect to both tangible material culture and intangible traditions.

The AACA Museum is proud to have Tucker #1026 included in the Driving Experience part of this conference.    It's an amazing opportunity for anyone who loves history and automobiles.
