Tools & Tips to Clean Up & Green Up Your Community

Keep Massachusetts Beautiful
Dear Friend,
You may be familiar with the old saying (coined by former Massachusetts Congressman Tip O'Neill) that "all politics is local." We believe that when it comes to trash, all "litter is local." While most people care about protecting Planet Earth, they are most concerned about their own neighborhoods, towns, and cities. If you would like to learn about the benefits of launching a local KMB chapter in your community, register for our October 30 Zoom call. We'll share best practices for getting started, including insights from our successful Keep Framingham Beautiful chapterFor more news and updates, please scroll down.

Chapter Spotlight: Keep Framingham Beautiful Featured on WBZ's Change Makers

Keep Framingham Beautiful is an amazingly energetic and inspiring local KMB chapter. We were happy to see co-founder Michael Croci, along with co-founder Debra Caplan and the entire KFB team honored for their hard work and dedication.
As evidence of this group’s impact, their Facebook group has more than 3,100 members. Check them out to see how a local KMB can not only clean up a community, but also bring residents together and help forge new friendships.

Beachy Clean!  Volunteers Give Lynn/Nahant Beach Reservation a Clean Sweep

We had a great turnout for our September 28th cleanup at Lynn/Nahant Beach Reservation.
This event was a joint effort of Corona Beer USA, Oceanic Global, DCR, Seaside Sustainability, and COASTSWEEP, the annual statewide beach cleanup program sponsored by the Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management.

Volunteers collected and removed 208 pounds of trash, including 128 pounds of plastic!
Through a combination of beach cleanups and changes across its business practices, Corona USA's Protect Our Beaches program aims to remove 1 million pounds of plastic by 2025.

Additional COASTSWEEP events are taking place from now until November. Sign up now to participate as a volunteer.

Maddie Kempton, 2024 Scholarship Grantee

Congrats to Our 2024 Next-Gen Environmental Leader Scholarship Grantee

We’re pleased to announce that Maddie Kempton, 18, of Holden is this year’s Next-Gen Environmental Leader Scholarship winner.

Kempton is pursuing a degree in Environmental Science at Westfield State University starting this fall.

Kempton graduated from Norfolk County Agricultural High School in Walpole in the spring of 2024, where she focused on environmental science.

“I am so honored to be awarded the Next-Gen Environmental Leader Scholarship and appreciate the financial support from Keep Massachusetts Beautiful,” said Kempton. “My current interests in environmental science are within environmental law and policy. In the future, I hope to work with the National Park Service or the Bureau of Land Management.”

The Next-Gen Environmental Leader Scholarship supports a Massachusetts high school senior student who plans to pursue a degree or certificate in environmental studies or a related field at an accredited institution of higher learning. If you’d like to support this scholarship, you can designate a donation to this specific program.
