A warm hello from “the Hill” to our Denison family!

Below, you’ll find some useful information to help guide you as your student progresses through the fall semester. Let’s get started!

News from the Academic Resource Center
| |
Denison launches it’s S.O.A.R. Flight School.
The college’s Academic Resource Center (ARC) has recently unveiled its new S.O.A.R. Flight School. The acronym stands for “strategies, organization, and academic resources,” and it describes the creative and engaging video workshop series that students access online via the MyDenison portal.
The on-demand tutorial series, created by the ARC staff and available throughout the semester, covers a variety of topics, including time management, annotating textbooks, taking class notes, testing-taking strategies, communication with faculty, and much more.
Additionally, ARC staff members are available to meet with students on an individual basis for more specific questions and support related to their academic goals. Students can email arc@denison.edu to arrange an appointment.

It’s never too early — or too late — to start thinking about career goals.
- Activate their Handshake profile, our one-stop virtual career center that includes all our career exploration resources, internships, and job postings, and signups for career programs and coaching appointments.
- Make an appointment with a career coach. Our team will meet your student wherever they are in their career planning process and help with career exploration, resumes, networking, interviewing, and more. Read the Knowlton Note (sent each Sunday).
Family members can get connected to the Knowlton Center as well!
- Sign up for the Knowlton Note so you can gently remind your student to attend an event or check out an employment opportunity!
- Offer an internship — Internships are longer-term opportunities (usually 4 to 10 weeks) for students to work at an organization, either during the winter or summer break. They can be paid or unpaid. If you’re interested in learning more about hosting a Denison intern, email career@denison.edu and include “Internship Opportunity” in the subject line.

A message from the First‑Year Office

Some notes about Notebowl
To assist in first-year students’ transition to Denison, the First-Year Office will communicate with them through the college’s internal learning management system, Notebowl.
All first-year students were automatically included in the First-Year Students Notebowl group. Here, we post important updates about upcoming campus events, basic how-tos, and relevant deadlines. We also invite any questions that students might have.
We’ve let all of our first-year students know about this platform via email, but we ask you to encourage your student to check Notebowl frequently for updates and set their preferences to make sure they’re notified when there is a new post. In addition, first-years can follow us on Instagram for updates.
