Interpretive Volunteer Updates

Dear Volunteers,

Whether you have recently seen the seemingly constantly blooming Monkey-faced Dracula Orchids (Dracula simia) at the Conservatory, or you have basked in the ephemeral beauty of cherry blossoms at the Japanese Tea Garden, I hope your spring has been off to a bright start!

Magnolia season has officially come to a close at the Botanical Garden. Thank you to all of you who volunteered and helped connect our visitors with Magnolias this year!

For those who lead public and private tours, along with rovers and interpretive station volunteers, we hope you can join us for our next iteration of our Gardens of Golden Gate Park Interpretive Volunteer Refresher Sessions!

Interpretive Volunteer Registration and Resources

Botanical Garden:

Register for volunteer spots at the Botanical Garden through your unique Volunteer Portal. April Botanical Garden public tours are now posted on our publicly available Event Calendar.

Conservatory of Flowers:

We now have a new landing page for Conservatory volunteers for you to register for your assignments, which also includes the Conservatory's Gallery Updates.

In addition, we are seeking volunteer support for the following special assignments. If you can lead either or both of these events, please email Sarah at ssawtelle@gggp.org.

Wednesday, May 16 at 1:45 pm - Rhoda Goldman Plaza Senior Center Private Tour. Can you lead this group on a tour of the Conservatory? Seeking 1 volunteer.
Friday, May 26 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm - Special Event: A wedding party has requested roving or station volunteers during the portion of the wedding where guests are exploring the galleries, would you like to volunteer for this event? Seeking two roving or interpretive station volunteers.

We have postponed the event once more due to the weather and I hope you can join us on our new date for our most irrational and transcendental celebration of all things round as we host a convivial gathering at the Botanical Garden. While we postponed the event that was originally scheduled for March 14, we're still excited to celebrate. All Three Gardens: Refresher for Interpretive Volunteers

Three-part series: April 18, April 25 and May 2

Join us as we gather volunteers & staff from all three gardens to share updates on how we are connecting volunteering opportunities within the Gardens of Golden Gate Park and answer your questions related to interpretive programs across the gardens. We hope you'll join us for this 3-meeting series if you lead tours, host interpretive stations, rove at the Conservatory of Flowers and Botanical Garden, or lead City Guide tours at the Japanese Tea Garden. Join us for a special presentation by Frank Almeda, Ph.D., and Tin-Wa Maung, Ph.D., on the exceptional biodiversity of the island of Madagascar, research on medicinal plants, and the need for conservation in this ecologically unique country. This presentation is in association with the current library art exhibition, Madagascar: Plants & Insects, featuring watercolors by artists of the Mary L. Harden School of Botanical Illustration. Congratulations to our New Garden Guides!

Welcome and congratulations to our newest group of Garden Guides! Our newest cohort of Garden Guides will support school and family programs across the three Gardens. In spite of weather-related closures on 3 of the 5 sessions, 15 volunteers are now ready to put their skills to work, engaging children in our rich Garden environments. I hope you will give them a warm welcome when you see them at the Gardens!
