Welcome, Dr. Anup D. Patel!
Anup D. Patel, MD, FAAN, FAES, has joined Partners For Kids as chief medical officer, in addition to his current role as associate chief quality officer in the Center for Clinical Excellence at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. He is a professor in clinical pediatrics and neurology at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. He is board certified in neurology with special qualifications in child neurology. In addition, he is board certified in epilepsy and clinical neurophysiology. He is the vice-chair of the Quality Committee for the American Academy of Neurology. He has interests in child neurology, pediatric epilepsy and quality improvement.
In his new role, Dr. Patel will co-lead the Partners For Kids service line teams on the journey to best outcomes for children everywhere. Please join us in welcoming Dr. Patel to the Partners For Kids team.

Registration Open for Annual Administrative Retreat
Partners For Kids is hosting the 6th annual retreat, “How a Practice Administrator Can Impact a Practice’s Success,” for practice administrators and office managers. This virtual event will be held Friday, June 21, and will feature speakers from Dayton Children’s Hospital, Nationwide Children’s Hospital and Partners For Kids. Session topics include supporting patients with social needs, using data to improve outcomes and communicating to influence.

Do You Have a Patient Enrolled in Medicaid Who Has a Long-Term Disability?
Patients enrolled in Medicaid who have a long-term disability may qualify for Supplemental Security Income (SSI). The maximum benefit amount for an individual eligible for SSI is $943 per month beginning in 2024. Partners For Kids can help connect your patients to these benefits.

Asthma Medication Ratio Patient List Now Available
Beginning February 19, the Asthma Medication Ratio (AMR) patient list will be available on the Partners For Kids Provider Portal. AMR is a new Provider Incentive Plan measure in 2024. The patient list displays persistent asthmatics for the previous 12 months. Email PFKProRelations@childrensdayton.org if you have questions or are unable to log into the Provider Portal.

Updated Nicotine Dependence Prescribing Guidelines Now Available
Partners For Kids updated the Nicotine Dependence Prescribing Guidelines designed to help primary care practitioners provide timely and effective treatment for children with nicotine use disorders. Topics include screening and diagnostic tools, first-line behavioral modifications and external support, recommended medication and nicotine replacement therapies, and treatment time frame recommendations. NEW! Asthma Resource for Switching Between Inhaled Steroids
Due to insurance changes and drug shortages, inhalers used to control pediatric asthma may be difficult to access. Partners For Kids now has a tool to help providers when a transition to an alternative controller inhaler is necessary.

Updated Anxiety and Depression Guidelines are Now Available
In collaboration with subject matter experts from Nationwide Children’s Hospital and Dayton Children’s Hospital, Partners For Kids has developed clinical guidelines for anxiety and depression. These guidelines are designed to assist providers with screening and treating anxiety and depression.

Examples of sessions include providing tools and tips for avoiding and resolving prior authorizations and reviewing medication fill patterns to identify areas of opportunity.
