Late Summer Greetings & Autumn Planning |
Artist Laura White poses next to the tactile quilted art piece she created which is shaped like the Audio-Reader logo and framed by quilt squares.
Have you been by the studio recently? If it's been a while, we would love for you to stop by to say hello, grab a treat at the coffee bar, and check out the new art piece Audio-Reader commissioned from local artist Laura White (art is pictured above with the artist). This special art is made to be touched!
Laura White has been losing both her vision and hearing slowly over the last 30 years due to Retinitis Pigmentosa with Usher syndrome. She was told she would have to give up art due to her vision loss, but she pushed back and adapted to a new way of making art using fuse beads. This method allows her to continue using art as an outlet for her creative expression.
Similar tactile quilt pieces have been on display at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Roeland Park City Hall, Johnson County Community Building, and Englewood Gallery in Independence, MO.
Learn more about her art in this article posted on the Johnson County Parks & Rec website: https://jcprd.com/2007/Community-Beaded-Quilt
