Message from President Sarah Mangelsdorf

In a message to the University community, President Sarah Mangelsdorf expressed shock, anger, and sorrow over the events Wednesday at the US Capitol and also shared hope that we can refocus our attention on the issues confronting our nation and community today: the COVID-19 pandemic, economic inequality, and systemic racism.

The newly approved Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine has arrived at the University of Rochester. Researchers and volunteers in Rochester have been involved in the testing of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine since May.

The Meliora Collective mentorship program launches January 9

We’re excited to invite you to participate in a new mentorship initiative, including one-month and three-month program options. Alumni may sign up to be either a mentor or a mentee. Participants will be carefully matched based on their preferences and interests so that they can share experiences, advice, and help guide participants on their professional paths.

Our new Women’s Network celebrates the rich contributions of women around the globe who are part of the Rochester family. We’re proud of all the accomplishments since our launch in October, especially our growing community on The Meliora Collective. In 2021, you can look forward to dynamic programming about Leading Through Change, the launch of a University-wide mentoring program, a new challenge to support our Women’s Network Scholarship, projects at the Susan B. Anthony Center and other women’s initiatives, and opportunities to connect socially to help women stay engaged with the University and each another. We know we can achieve great things, together.

Rochester researchers uncover key clues about the solar system's history

Researchers in Earth and environmental sciences have used magnetism to determine, for the first time, when asteroids that are rich in water and amino acids first arrived in the inner solar system. The work could lead to a better understanding of the evolution of the solar system and the origin of Earth as a habitable planet.

Hey everyone, I'm Tiffany! I graduated in May with a major in biomedical engineering, a minor in music, and I did a Take Five year in gender and media. I currently work as an AmeriCorps VISTA through the Rochester Youth Year program, where I'm serving at Frederick Douglass Family Initiatives as their communications coordinator. I'm a born and raised Rochesterian, a lover of doodling, and a proponent for eating breakfast food at any time of day.
