------
From the frozen, fresh and shelf-stable produce numbers, it is clear that consumers continue to prepare many more meals at home. Here are the September results, perIRI data:
Frozen fruits and vegetables increased 18.5% vs. YA
Shelf-stable (canned) increased 12.6%
Fresh, that makes up 80% of all fruits/veg sales, increased 10.7%
Vegetables (+13.9% vs. YA) continued to track well ahead of fruit (+7.6%). However, fruit prices were down significantly vs YA, which drove robust growth in volume, up 12.6%
Berries, lettuce and melons dominated the top 10 in absolute gains. Mushrooms continue to punch above their weight with 31 weeks of double-digit growth.
After an initial drop, floral has been trending well ahead of last year since May, up 12% vs. YA in September
The sales numbers have been very stable for several months now and with more at-home holiday celebrations, retail should remain strong for the foreseeable future
