A January term class of 14 students from NYU Shanghai, NYU, and NYU Abu Dhabi raced to document Sanlin Old Town, a historic community near campus that is slated for demolition in the coming months. The students created a digital archive that preserves not just buildings, but the voices and experiences of the people who have lived there for generations.

• Associate Professor of Chemistry William Glover has been awarded a Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Invitational Fellowship to visit Kyoto University in Spring 2026. The fellowship supports international research exchange by inviting overseas researchers to Japan to collaborate with local host scholars and institutions. 

• Professor of History and the Director of Center for Global Asia Tansen Sen has been awarded a three-year visiting fellowship (2026–2029) through the Nalanda Professorship in India-China Studies program at the Asia Research Institute (ARI), National University of Singapore. The fellowship supports sustained research on India-China topics and will allow Sen to spend up to 3.5 months at ARI each year to pursue his project.

• On Thursday, Founder and Managing Partner of D’Andrea & Partners Legal Counsel and Founder of DP Group Mr. Carlo Diego D’Andrea delivered a talk on the status of European business in China, based on the Shanghai Position Paper 2025/2026, which was released by the Shanghai Chapter of the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China, outlining a clear pathway for the city to optimise its business environment, including by increasing the city’s level of internationalization. The speaker was introduced by Associate Dean of Business, Associate Professor of Practice in Business Raymond Ro. 

• On Monday, Assistant Arts Professor of Interactive Media Arts Andy Garcia and Associate Professor of Contemporary Global Media Anna Greenspan spoke with students on integrating urban farming and academic research.

“You can catch up on sleep, but only to a certain extent. Our bodies are really resilient and flexible, so missing sleep for a short time—like during an exam period—usually does not lead to long-term damage. A couple of days or even a couple of weeks is usually fine. However, if sleep deprivation and stress persist over years and years, it definitely does take a toll on your health.”

Distinguished Global Network Professor of History Chen Jian, Professor Liu Qing, and Professor Mao Jian from ECNU engaged in a discussion at Lujiazui Library last Saturday to trace the origins of the Second World War, Wenhui Daily reported.
